  • Airplane Distractions

So we have a portable DVD player which we haven't used in quite a while because we now have a built in one in the car. I got it out today to prepare for our trip this weekend and it will only hold a charge for 45 minutes, not long enough to haul it around.

So do I buy another DVD player or do I buy something like a Leap Pad? They're both about the same price.

Thoughts, experiences? My kids are almost 3 and almost 5.

    Thanks!!

Do you know someone you can borrow a DVD player from? I think the tough thing with the leap pad is sharing it, where they can watch a DVD at the same time. My kids just don't really get into watching each other play a game.

Well I'm actually thinking about giving one one of these and the other the ipod touch or something else, like maybe a laptop. I already told DH he has to sit with one and I'll sit with one. I'm not sitting with both of them by myself.

I'm in the process of wiping my old macbook I may just take that, we'll see how long of a charge it will hold.

My ds has a Kindle Fire and it is awesome on airplanes, car rides, etc. He will play games and watch movies. The battery life seems to last quite awhile. I would consider a Kindle Fire.

You can also get power inverters so you can plug in the DVD player. We do that for every road trip and it works well. You just have to remember to turn off the inverter when the car is off so you don't drain the battery.

The plug in doesn't help on a plane though - we won't use a DVD player in the car because we have a built in.

I'm not sure we want to go down the road of a fire, I wish the old basic ipads weren't so expensive!

Oops! Sorry -- I missed that it wasn't a car trip!

Do you have any credit card points? We got one for "free" utilizing points, and LOVE it. I have a heavy duty case on it to protect it from the kids.

No all of our CC's are either miles or Costco rewards.

If you plan to travel a lot more by airplane in the coming years, I'd go buy a DVD player. They are pretty cheap and lightweight. A leapfrog wouldn't probably entertain for very long.

Also we use the portable DVD player for occupying the young one at a sports practice, swim meet, soccer game... You will be doing more of that stuff with A in the future and so it will probably come in handy to occupy R.

Stickers, and a DVD that makes trips-only appearances.

We just got a Google Nexus 7 tablet, and I would totally vote for something like that. Games, movies, books, music, etc. It's about as cheap as an ipod touch anyway! Go android!!

I think we're just going to borrow a friends DVD player and sit them together, I bought headphones and a splitter. I don't really want to spend anymore money and I think I can waste part of the first flight feeding them dinner.

I got drink coupons in the mail from Southwest yesterday so maybe I'll sit with them and just order several drinks!

Best idea EVER! They may not be any easier to deal with, but at least you won't care.
