Like the other day he had a normal, formed stool when I changed his diaper after breakfast. That is is his normal dirty diaper, right after breakfast. Then after snack AND lunch he had dirty diapers again, the first was not as runny as the 2nd but they were both definitely not formed.

I'm so confused! How would giving him fiber help if his stools are already runny?
As long as you are sure that the loose stool isn't related to a GI bug or teething, or the like, I would try to up his fiber a bit. It will act as a bulking agent but will also help bind up excess water in the colon.

Gigantic blackberries (or blueberries) from Costco do the trick over here.

Fiber works both for loose stool and firm stool. It can be amazing (we talk about it a lot as veterinarians). If the stool is too loose, fiber will soak up the excess liquid...if the stool is too firm, fiber will draw liquid into the lumen of the gut to soften the stool. Definitely an undervalued nutritional information line item.

The fiber chews I use I get on amazon, and while they aren't ideal, they definitely beat giving a first grader explosive diarrhea. You can also find fiber powder at Whole Foods. DD would never drink anything I mixed it into, so it kind of defeated the point. If you can get him to do blackberries, etc, dried apricots also work. I just found that the on,y thing DD would consistently take is the vitamins.

Deb can you post the ones you buy, there are so many choices on there and the reviews are very mixed on all of them.

              Thanks!

Vita fusion fiber well. If you do a google, you can get them a multitude of places online.

They have big bottles of them at Costco, too.

Or, it could be a control issue (with poop).

Given our experiences in our own family, my first thought is to examine food. DS and youngest DD are gluten intolerant and while they can handle small amounts (they can each handle about one slice of whole grain bread a day), any more gives them both poopy pants. YAY.

Well if anything its getting worse but I started the fiber vitamins today so we'll see. How long do you think I give them before I call his doctor if this continues?

I would start a food/potty diary. If you go to the doctor, they'll want that info anyway. Especially since it's the holidays, he may be eating differently than usual...

                          Good luck! Poop stinks :/

SS, do I remember correctly that someone in your family eats gluten-free? I could be thinking of someone else. If your kiddo has a family connection to gluten intolerance or celiac disease, get him tested. I can't stress enough how much health trouble I could have avoided if I'd known earlier.

My MIL is gluten free, I'll have to ask DH if she has celiac or if it is something else.

There is definitely something wrong, the last few days his diapers have gotten worse and now he has a TERRIBLE diaper rash. I've looked at his diet and other then a few more sweets then normal because of the holidays, really hasn't had yogurt the last few days but this started before that, and he is now on the fiber vitamins I don't see anything out of the ordinary in his diet.

Does anyone remember the diaper rash cream recipe that used to be around here - the homemade stuff? I don't remember who posted it and I've searched and search and can't find it. Seems like it has Maalox or something in it??

I'm using Butt Paste and that's helping but not great...
