  • Late Teether?

Didn't want to hijack TS's thread about weaning ... but the replies got me thinking just how behind (maybe, I have no clue) DS1 is in the tooth department. He's 20 months old and only has 6 teeth (4 on the top and two on the bottom). He didn't get his first tooth until 12 months and no new teeth have erupted since August-ish. I don't think it's impacting him functionally: he's a great little talker and CAN eat pretty much anything (what he chooses to eat, or the lack thereof, is a whole other issue). I don't want to Google because I'm sure I'll become convinced that he has some rare genetic deformity, so I'll ask you all Should I be concerned? Do I need to bring it up with his ped?

At DS's 2 year check up, I asked his ped if we should do X-rays to see if DS HAD more than six teeth. He started a little later though (14 months). I think the ped did laugh out loud. At age five, the kid has all his teeth and the dentist says there's a good chance they're healthier bc that tends to be the case with late teethers. My girls teethed late, too, but not so much so that I worried they isn't have teeth.

Ha ha, thanks Deb! I was just sitting at my desk thinking "holy crap, maybe he only has 6 teeth." Whew, sounds like I won't be needing to save for toddler dentures after all

Ok - didn't, not isn't! I promise IRL I speak very well with good grammar. Touch screens and auto correct are not my friends.
