  • New Mommy Gift

One of my best friends just had her first baby - her husband is overseas serving in Afghanistan. He was looking for ideas for a new mommy gift that is geared more toward HER, rather than the baby. He'd like to get her jewelry, but doesn't really want to buy that online.

My initial thought was a cleaning lady or some help around the house - but that is not a tangible gift. My friend is a crafty-baking type and she just had a c-section. She needs to stay off her feet, but is struggling to do so. I wish I could fly out there and help her, as she came and stayed with me when I still had some PPD and my Mom was out of town. Her Mom is there now and is helpful with the baby, but I think my friend is still trying to do laundry and clean around the house (which she should NOT be doing yet). Anyways, any thoughts on what you would have liked with a new born baby? Any thoughts for something sentimental? Or a gadget that was really helpful?

    Thanks!

I actually think jewelry could be a great gift. If he goes to Gemvara.com, they'll help him custom design something for her. Maybe with the baby's birthstone? That company is who DH used when he designed an upgraded wedding set for me. Their customer service is ah-mazing and very proactive. Their prices aren't crazy, either.

Red envelope also has some really nice new mom jewelry. I LOVE vintage pearl, and DH got me a necklace with my kids' names engraved from there that I wear almost daily. They have very sentimental, beautiful gifts.

As for the cleaning, a reminder that if she over does it, she might end up bak in the hospital wouldn't hurt. That's what backed me down after my third c-section when I kept slowing down my recovery. I knew I had to get well to take care of my kids.

Set up a Mealtrain.com registry for her, so friends and family can sign up to take meals/send take out without any overlap.
