  • Nanny compensation - adding a child?

So we pay our nanny pretty much everything we can afford but I'm hoping for a raise this summer to give her more when Baby #2 arrives. Can any of you who have nannied or who have employed nannies speak to your pay increases per child?

She certainly deserves something but I'm at a loss for how much given that she'll obviously be splitting time between my kids so she's still working the same number of hours. I want to be fair but reasonable since it's not exactly the same as a daycare where they add staff, etc.

I occasionally use a sitter through an agency. They only raised my rate by a $1 for adding an infant. I would probably give a raise of $2/hr if you can swing it.

We also only have an occasional sitter (2-5 hours/week). When we talked about her rate, we agreed to more than her "going rate", but stated that that would be for 1 or 2 kids. The other thing to think about is will you drop her rate when DD starts preschool?

I always thought of it as charging people for my time not the number of kids. When the people I nannied for had a second child they increased my pay, but I don't remember it being a lot. It was just more like a raise.

I have no idea but good luck! I would say you wouldn't raise it much but both will still be in diapers right? How old will your DD be when #2 arrives?

I asked my sister and her kids are the same age as yours, they raised her pay $2/hr but I don't know how much that was as a percentage of the whole.
