  • Peg Perego strollers?

I'm looking for a stroller with a bassinet attachment for when LO is an infant. There are not many on the market but we've narrowed it down to a couple of models by Peg Perego, the Skate and the Switch Four.

They're more expensive than other brands but when we saw the solid construction and the fact that they're made in Italy we were sold. I'm just having a hard time deciding between the two.

    Has anyone owned/used one?

    Thanks, S

I know very little about the current Peg Peregos, but my mom swore by the one she had when I was a baby. I'm planning to get an UPPAbaby Vista for my November baby. It has a bassinet, toddler seat, can hold an additional seat for a toddler, and has an adapter for several different carseats.

Do you have the Baby Bargains book? It gave those pretty decent reviews, I think. I can type up the whole thing if you don't have it, although if you don't, you should get it - it's my new favorite book ever.

Thanks! I must get that book. I found part of the strollers section online. They had good things to say about the Peg Perego brand anyway, high quality. I love their review of Bugaboo. I thought they were so flimsy for that price!
The UPPAbaby Vista is very nice too. The bassinet that comes with it is great!
DH is so picky. He won't buy anything for the baby that is made in China. Easier said than done. While everyone else in the store was trying out the folding mechanism, adjusting the seat etc. he was lifting every stroller up, looking at the manufacturer's label until he saw 'made in Italy' It's weird because he couldn't care less about brand names.

My mom picked mine out and is paying for it - I honestly didn't care that much about the brand either. I'm planning to get a caddy for the carseat (Chicco Keyfit 30), and I was going to just get a lightweight stroller for when the baby outgrew that (either the Chicco Liteway or maybe a Maclaren), but my mom saw the UPPAbaby and decided I needed it, so I decided not to argue. I still want the caddy though, for quick trips.

That's so sweet of your Mom! Who's gonna argue with that offer?
We're trying to just stick with what we need, it's hard though.
I absolutely love this though. Inglesina Classica. If only it weren't so impractical. It's a work of art!

We saw one of those at the store the other day! It was definitely beautiful.

I can't speak for the strollers, but we bought the carrier and returned it immediately. The hood didn't come down far enough to be useful at all.

We got a hand-me-down Peg Perego when DD was born. It has now been through 4 kids and although a bit beat up, pretty much indestructible. I don't know about newer models but mine only works with Peg Perego car seat. Other than the weight, I'm very happy with the car seat too.

ST, good to know about the carrier! I will be looking for one of those too for the first few months.

Thanks Vishenka! They do look solid. I think the newer models are a little heavier too. That's something I'll have to look at. Won't be using it every day though so it may be ok.

It's a personal preference thing, but I liked having a shade with large coverage on the graco snugride. All te Peg Perego models might not have te same issue.

By the way...the portable battery powered swing that works with the Graco carseats? Best thing ever.

I'm a little hesitant about these - something about how staying in the position that the carseat puts the baby in isn't recommended long term for developmental issues? I don't remember all the details, and I don't have my book with me right now. I don't know how big of a deal it is, and I don't want to be that mom who won't let the kid do anything, just wanted to bring it up.

We actually had a regular swing too, but this was golden for the times she fell asleep in the car or getting her to sleep ready to go in the carseat as I was getting ready in the morning. We used it a few times as a portable swing while she slept. I think as long as they aren't laying down all day it will be fine.

Well, I went ahead and ordered the Switch Four Modular. Comes with chassis, toddler seat, bassinet, bassinet stand, car seat, rain cover and diaper bag. Supposed to get it within the week, can't wait!
ST, it looks like the canopy on the car seat folds down fully but even if it doesn't it's not a big issue since we'll mostly be using it for car rides.
Allison, I've read that too about extended time in a car seat (when it's not being used in the car). There are a bunch of studies on it in Pediatrics journal. I am hoping that having the bassinet will mean we don't have to use the car seat much, just for quick trips to the store.

You won't appreciate the portability of the carseat until you start using. As long as the baby doesn't live in it 24/7, he'll be fine.

So, we went to a store and got cornered by a salesman to look at the Peg Perego, and I have to admit, it has some features that are so much nicer than the Uppababy - mostly the folding and lighter weight!
