  • Hungry/sleep

So R's troubles of staying in his room the last few weeks have resurfaced, he's also exhausted but can't nap b/c if he does he stays up until 10pm like last night. He's waking up around 4-5am to potty and then won't go back to sleep, then about 5:30 he starts coming in to my room and tells me he's hungry. I can believe that, he's been eating us out of house and home during the day so he's obviously going through a growth spurt but he eats very little for dinner regardless of what I make.

I've tried taking away things if he won't stay in his room, it doesn't help and it doesn't solve the issue that by 2-3pm he's dragging because he's been up since 4 or 5??

    Help!

I wish I had good advice, but I have a lot of sympathy. DS gets into bad sleep spirals, too, and it's so hard to get him out of it. Have you tried a really early bedtime for a night or two, like 6:30ish? Sometimes if DS needs to catch up a little, I'll lay down with him in the early afternoon for 30-45 minutes. He also can't take a real nap for the same reason as R, but the little power nap sometimes helps.

My kids are both in bed by 6pm because they are just wired to get up early. In our house, A can get up early, but she needs to stay in her room and read quietly, if she is hungry she can access the cereal and soy milk. Although she still comes in to ask me if it is still sleepy time or if she can read with her door closed. I suspect this growth spurt is messing with R's sleep/eat cycle and hopefully it will all balance out soon.

ETA: A will not nap (power nap or otherwise) unless she is sick so it's early bedtime for us.
