  • Supplementing with Formula

My supply has absolutely tanked. I don't know if it's from being sick, if my cycle is returning, or what, but I'm pumping about half of what I need to send with E to daycare. I had managed to build up a little bit of stash back up, but it won't get me through all of next week if my supply doesn't pick back up. So, it looks like I'm going to have to finally start supplementing. For those of you who have used formula, what kind did you use and why? One of the other pediatricians at our clinic recommended Gerber Good Start, and another friend recommended Enfamil for Supplementing. I've also read that the supplementing formulas don't make a difference at all.

    Supplementing with Formula

Boo. I'm doing okay again...I ate badly and that boosted it. Guess I just needed to replace the calories. But I burned through my stash too. Hope it comes back

We use Gerber Good Start Gentle. Supposed to be gentler on the tummy. We started with Earth's best but it made DS very gassy. He won't take Similac or Enfamil. We tried a couple of times while traveling because we ran out. They both have a very strong smell compared to Gerber so maybe that's why.
He's doing great on it, 29in and 23lbs at 8 months.

I also used Gerber Good Start Gentle whenever I gave my kids formula. No real reason except that's what I had some coupons for, and they did well with it. Be sure to get on their mailing list - you'll get some good coupons every few months.

We used Enfamil. That's what we had coupons for and the sleep deprived research I did indicated that brand didn't matter.

We used the Sam's Brand - you'll find that a lot of the "generics" are made by the same factories as the name brands.

I used whatever was least expensive. I had the same issue that you are having with K1 and I was so distraught about having to send formula to day care. A year later I was over it. For K2, I never pumped and simply gave him formula when he was apart from me. It really took a lot of pressure off of me and was so much better. That's been my plan for Lambie too but ironically, it's my third baby that hasn't had any formula (yet). Still no pumping; she's just with me all the time. I haaaaaaaaaate pumping.

Target brand. It was the cheapest around where I live.

Enfamil with first because they sent me tons of coupons and BJs had a good price on it. Similac with second, because their coupons were better at the time.

Our ped said that brand basically doesn't matter . Also, serious props to all of you who pump. I am with MrsK. More than I hate nursing, I loathe pumping. Seriously, my hat is off to you!

We use the Target brand. DH's advice was to start with the cheapest and only change it up if you run into problems. (My kid loves formula. Didn't take much convincing at all.) We did one bottle/day of formula from about 7mos-9mos and now two bottles/day. Mostly because I don't like pumping at work.

I haaaate pumping but still doing it. Check Craigslist for coupons. People often trade brands and you can get free coupons. We haven't had to do formula yet but my supply is very borderline and I have tons of travel in June which always makes it worse.

I really suspect my cycle has returned. On top of the low supply, I've been absolutely exhausted the last couple of days. That, or maybe I need to buy another box of pregnancy tests.
