  • Rotavirus vaccine

My easy EASY baby who is a good eater has been arching her back, spitting up, crying during feedings, flicking the bottle nipple around in her mouth-----basically ALL the signs of reflux. I called the pediatrician's office, and all 3 of the pediatricians I like there are on vacation for the rest of this week and next. Wtf?! Is that allowed? . The NP I talked to said she'd prescribe C Zantac, but how will I know this is reflux and not the battery of vaccines she got on Tuesday if we start medicating?

So my question for you all is: have any of your wee ones had reflux symptoms after the rotavirus vaccine?

TIA from a worried mama who doesn't want to go down the reflux road again. Boo hoo.

Dd5 had awful reactions to the rotavirus vax. Maybe get the script and if she isn't improved by Saturday have it filled.

So sorry your poor dolly is feeling bad. .

Thanks for your advice. I don't want to head into the weekend without a good plan. I think I'll call back for the rx tomorrow.

E had some pretty awful BMs after her first round of vaccines, but I don't think she had any more spitup than normal. She still spits up a ton, but because it doesn't bother her, we've never done anything about it.

We've had some reactions like that to vaccines. But I've gotta say that rotavirus vaccine has to be the greatest invention of this new millenium. We all got rotavirus when we had two little kids, and it was hell - trying to deal with the kids' nasties while the parents also have it coming out of both ends...boy I don't miss it, and I'm super happy we never had to do it with the 3 others.

And now we have bottle aversion, crying, dream feeding. It's sounding more like reflux than just rotavirus vaccination side effects. Just like big sister... Tara, thanks for advising me to push for the rx before the weekend. We just gave her her first dose, and will see how things go the next few days.

Hugs. I know how much of a struggle it was with M.

I'm glad you have it and I hope it helps! At least you've btdt with M, I think it will help know how to manage things this time around. Keep us posted!

I don't know why I instantly felt defeated when C started having reflux symptoms. We can do this, right?! . I'm a pro. And it's not the end of the world. All things considered, this is at least something I've got experience with.

Zantac did nothing for M's reflux, but C seems to be feeling better after the first 3 doses. Yay!

Yes! You CAN do this!!!! I'm glad she feels better!! I was going to say that Zantac did nothing for A either, but wonders for H! Those little sisters have to be different

The good news is that the zantac seems to be working! The bad news is that she's got the runnies. She's pooped a good 6 times in the past 12-14 hours. The first few were really runny, and more recently, they've become better formed with cottage cheese looking pieces. She's eating well, so I'm not worried about hydration yet, but I'm gonna cut her dose in half tonight and call the pediatrician tomorrow.

Could that be from the vaccine? E's were green, runny, and very smelly for several days after her first rotavirus.

The diarrhea didn't start until overnight last night. That's 4 days after she got her vaccines. I'm pretty sure it's the medication.
It's listed as one of the side effects. I halved her dose tonight and will call first thing in the morning to see how to proceed. She's got a terrible diaper rash now. But overall doing well!!

The Zantac isn't working anymore. Or maybe it never did, I don't know. I'm calling tomorrow to see if we can switch C to Prevacid.

C is already starting to give her bottle strange looks while she eats. . I cannot do bottle aversion and OT with another kid... Please don't make me do it again!!

And off we go to the reflux races. The good news is that if I have another crappy eater, when we go out to eat, we can save $ and have the two girls split a kids' meal.
