Hi. So I was reading over another thread about car seats in which you all say the kids were much more comfortable in their convertible car seat. E has very bad reflux and I think the infant car seat where he is more curved is not helping. DH does not believe me when I say that the convertible car seat, while yes still leans a bit, it more upright. He says that because E only weight about 15lbs he will still be in an infant position. E is 7 months this weekend and can sit up on his own unless he gets excited and then can tip over. I believe he is ready for the next car seat especially since we will be doing a 6 hour drive for Thanksgiving. I am really not looking forward to hours of screaming because he is in the infant seat. Am I wrong? I mean we are going to have to get one eventually. Why wait?

Car Seat Argument

The convertible is still reclined but for some reason is way more comfortable. C hated the infant car seat and was so much happier when we switched him at 8 months, though I wish we'd done it sooner. It's higher up so he could see better out the window and way more spacious. I don't see any reason to wait.Student and Mom to an Oct 2013 boy

Go for it. I agree that the convertible is reclined but it is more upright than the infant seat. We switched both kids around 9 months mostly because I was tired of lugging around the carrier. I think they do seem more comfortable in the convertible. The carrier to me is all about the convince of getting the baby to and from the car.

So is your hubby concerned that your ds won't be as safe or does he just not think it will help? I guess I'm unclear on the point of contention.
When you are losing hearing because your child hates his car seat it's time to try something new. I will say that switching to a convertible helped a bit with our car seat haters but didn't stop all the crying (I don't want you to think its a magic bullet).
You've got to buy one anyway, might as well give it a shot. Tell your hubby it's either that or you're doing a two car road trip and he will be driving the baby
Eta: is he still on Zantac or did you switch meds? Zantac was of very little help for us.Last edited by Pollyanna; 11-06-2014, 07:24 AM.Tara

I made the point that we have to buy one eventually anyway and whats the difference spending the money now or later? Honestly.. its to my inlaws for thanksgiving.. Instead of a two car trip I'll pack him and the baby up with all the formula and bottles they would need and I'll stay home.
We switched to baby prilosec last night. In the past week all of a sudden its become so much worse. But he keeps gagging on the new medicine.. Its hard to get it down him. Its kind of rough right now. Everyone kept saying it will get better around this time and for it all of a sudden to get worse is just... hard.-L.Jane

It's not permanent. He can always go back to the infant seat for a while if it's a complete disaster!!
Definitely switch to the convertible. Just keep him rear-facing as long as possible (2-4 years), and it's all good.Heidi, PA-S1 - wife to an orthopaedic surgeon, mom to Ryan, 17, and Alexia, 11.

We also had good luck on the Solutabs of a PPI (can't remember if it was Prilosec or not). You just push it into the corner of their mouth and it dissolves.Married to a Urology Attending! (that is an understated exclamation point)

Are you weaning off of zantac or go cold turkey? Even though it may not have worked for him, I know that M had terrible withdrawal from it when we switched to Prevacid.
I'm a lil nuts when it comes to reflux. C is on Prevacid, after having been on zantac for 4 days (I bagged it, because the stuff just tastes nasty and didn't seem to work), and we switched her to Prevacid, which she thinks tastes pretty good. She still spits up a lot (around an ounce to 1.5 oz) at every feeding, BUT isn't fussy nor in pain.
Call your pediatrician 1000 times a day if you have questions. They're there for you! It's hard your first go-around as a parent to know how hard to push, but go with your instinct and call with every fart your kid makes. Mommy instinct is usually right!married to an anesthesia attending

Alison.. What were the withdrawl symptoms?
He is so good about it, not screaming, but the back arching, head turning, refusing to eat... He is so uncomfortable and I don't know what to do for him. I was told when he started solids it would be getting better.. not worse. I don't know what to feed him anymore.-L.Jane
