Happiness is watching my baby actually engaging with her baby gym. Not in a very coordinated manner, but making contact with some of the toys. You know, because this always happens ONE DAY after scheduling an appointment for a baby who I claimed does not play with anything like ever ever. Sigh.

The nurse is coming by for the initial assessment later this week. I plopped AB2 in her exersaucer while the nurse asked me some questions over the phone, and the little f-er was fumbling around with some of the toys dangling from it. She's messing with me!!!

She clearly uses her left hand more than her right, so that's a little strange.I'm a lefty, so it'd be nice to have another in the house. Still, I don't think handedness becomes apparently until close to 2yo, right?

DD has always favored her left hand. In the past 6 months, she's shifting to using her right hand more, but she probably uses both about equally right now - sometimes at the same time! (That's her coloring with both hands, but I assure you the wine glass is DH's!)

                        Coloring is actually remarkably therapeutic!

                          Cute, Laurie!

The nurse came for dd2's assessment and said she definitely exhibits some gross motor delays, but nothing that she felt was too concerning. She gave us a referral to pt but said to discuss it with dh, because she didn't think it was something absolutely necessary unless we really wanted it.

She said dd2 seems to be more interested in people than things, and that was her explanation for why she didn't really reach out for toys. She had me place dd2 in her bouncer and see if she reaches out for me when I pick her up, and she did/does. And when she tried to get dd2 to reach out for toys, instead of looking at the toy, she'd always look at the nurse's eyes for a reaction or for her to do something.

So, all in all, I feel more reassured. We aren't gonna do the pt and just see how things go the next few months.

Oh good! I'm glad you got some confirmation of your mommy instincts, but also reassurance that it's not serious. She's just a little social butterfly!
