    depending on your own timing/finances. for us, it was easier to send the kids off to full time (8 to 2pm) preschool/daycare - at around 2.5 yrs. the 2/3 yr old daycare was useless. however the 4/5 yr preschool comes in handy for kindergarten. in preschool, they learn to write alphabets/#'s. more than half my daughters k class knew how to read/write at the get go. by end of k, they were expected to read independently/know 200/300 sight words. some knew how to write paragraphs.
