  • please tell me its just a phase

E hit 11 months a few days ago and ever since he has been waking up from his afternoon nap with non stop screaming. It used to be if we went outside or he got distracted it would stop, but now it wont stop for quite a while. The other day he even wouldn't let me put him down when we got to the library for at least the first 15 minutes. He is always happy and easy going at the library. I've tried changing up his naps, feeding schedule, activities. Nothing I do changes his screaming. He is also throwing tantrums for really silly things. Like just now he threw a tantrum because I wouldn't let him pull my hair out. Not like Ive ever let him do that before. He doesn't seem to be teething like he was before and I haven't introduce any new foods because he had a cold. Did anyone else's 11 month old just start screaming?

Haha, well...he is still doing it sometimes! Like today. But I feel like around his first birthday he just got a little more mature and started understanding more. He was definitely teething too, which is probably a large part of it.

I'd also suspect teething. Have you tried tylenol or motrin when he won't settle down? Even if you can't see the teeth yet, they can still hurt. I always did the pain-reliever test and assumed it was a tooth if it helped.

Does he tug at his ears? Has he had nasal congestion recently?

ETA: just saw that he had a cold. It could be his ears and lying down.

Ibuprofen always worked way better than Tylenol for us

I've seen him tug once or twice but he always does that when he is tired. He had a cold this week and is still congested but the screaming has been pretty much only after the after noon nap and he is sleeping nicely through the night.

Oh I missed that! Worth checking for an ear infection, too.

Phase! DS1 did it on-and-off for about 6 months or so. Knock on wood, he hasn't done it in a while.

We had something similar around that age. I think it was a combination of him learning to walk, teething and learning how to throw tantrums. He calmed down a lot after he started walking.
