  • Baby needs some shoes

So all you wise BTDT moms, E is now cruising. So I took him up to stride rite to get measures and try on shoes. He was very excited about them at first. Then when we stood him up he just stood there and then he got annoyed, sat down and finally went into tantrum mode. He wouldn't even TRY to pick up his feet and walk or crawl. So for those of you who have gone through this. How did you introduce shoes to your kids and what kind of shoes did you get? Does he really need the $40 stride rite cruiser shoes? Is there a better brand or option? I have horrible feet so the last thing I want to do is screw up my kid's feet.

I start with robeez crib shoes and graduate to real shoes after they are really walking. They go barefoot at home. Or, in Lambie's case, barefoot when it's 20 degrees outside. She refuses to wear shoes.

My child is strange and loves shoes. She'll occasionally bring them to me to put on. My favorites are her Pedipeds, but we're in between sizes right now, so she mostly wears her white Keds t-straps. I like her Carters Every Step shoes a lot too, although those are also currently too big. She's got some Nikes that run small, and I'm going to get her some Sun Sans sandals for the summer. Target shoes are decent too if you want to save some money. The only shoes she has that I actually bought her are from Target or Once Upon a Child (used), so I'm probably not a big help. My mom likes to buy them for her, and I don't argue.

Oh, and once they were walking, I had their feet measured and determined which brand fit best. K1 wears pediped for his narrow feet. K2 wears striderite extra wides. I can't find anything that will fit K1 at striderite and can't force K2's feet into pedipeds.

Lambie's still in crib shoes but wearing the 0-6 month size so I expect she'll run small.

We just did socks or sometimes robeez but they just pulled them off and lost them. They got real shoes when they started walking. I do like the Skidderz brand for the almost just started walking stage--they stay on well and give them lots of traction

Robeez for cruising, then SKR or Stride Rite.

I'm all about Robeez. My son loved wearing them, couldn't get them off by himself, and I think they're adorable. Once he was really walking we went to a kids' shoe store and got him measured. Right now he wears Stride Rites, but only the brown ones, haha. He's very particular.

We did socks until walking. DS has always had way too many shoes, but I think the first couple pairs he wore a lot were Nike, Adidas, and Joe Fresh.

I don't really do shoes till they are walking outside. We Love robeez at first. For DS I think I had some robeez first walker shoes for his first pair. They were a step up from the leather shoes with a super thin rubber sole. For DD she wore a pair of pedipeds with the leather sole. I think something super flexible is best when they first start. Shoes are the one kid clothing item I spend money on.

See that's the thing, everything is outside here and get he just wants to WALK! So I need to figure out what to put him in so he doesn't hurt his feet. The biggest issue is getting him to wear them. The tantrums are epic

To avoid socks I would do something that slips on like Toms or kayak shoes (Tevas, Keens, Osh Kosh, etc).

I had a hard time getting Toms to stay on DS's feet until he was a little older, of course ymmv.
