• Swaddle/Sleep Sack/Sleep Suit

A is growing out of her small/medium Summer Infant swaddle wraps. She's 14 weeks and 13 lbs and I think those max out around 14 lbs. She has to have her knees bent or she stretches it tight, and when she stretches her hands pop out of the gaps. They do come in a larger size, or they make the "wrap sack" which is a little looser, or of course there are other brands. The ladies at daycare swear by the Magic Merlin Sleep Suit which looks like a crazy snowsuit or something and works by insulating/restricting movement so they don't wiggle themselves awake.

I think she still needs SOMETHING, because she wiggles so much when half asleep that she wakes herself. I don't really want to cold turkey the swaddle right now but I could see transitioning to something else. Recommendations?

IKEA sells sleep sacks on the cheap, and they're bigger!

Just sleep sacks, or can they go arms in/arms out? I'm not sure if I'm ready to release the beast, haha!

I'd swaddle for a little longer before transitioning to a sleep sack. We did until the kids started rolling back to tummy. I mostly used Aden + Anais blankets. DD was quite the Houdini, so we double swaddled her. She loved it! (http://www.hellobee.com/2012/12/26/the-double-swaddle/)

We did the 'traditional swaddle' until J was four months. Like ladymoreta we used the A + A double swaddle, then transitioned to just one (and rather looser than we started with) and now he sleeps just fine in his pajamas, no swaddle, no sack!

Ahh, we do have a fair number of swaddle blankets but we stopped using them at around 4 weeks because she would bust out. I did not know that method! I'll have to give it a try... but I don't have any swaddle wraps/sacks big enough to go on the outside so I'll still have to get something new. Or could I just do another muslin swaddle blanket on the outside?

I didn't put anything over it - she was already pretty warm in two blankets. I just tucked it in tight.

My husband is the master of the 'magic swaddle' as we called it so he was always tucked in tight Sounds like you've got a wiggle worm! Wish I had more to offer, good luck!

We used the bigger sized Summer Infant SwaddleMes when he grew out of the little ones, and occasionally the Halo sleep sacks with wings. The SwaddleMes were always my favorite.

We used the larger size Summer Infant swaddles, and when DS2 started breaking out of those, we doubled up. When we finally ditched the swaddle altogether around 6 months the transition was super easy, so I'm glad we waited.
Back with DS1 we used the Magic Merlin. I'm sort of so-so on it. It did serve as a good transition between the swaddle and the sleep sack, but i always felt like it was harder for DS to self soothe since he couldn't really roll around much on his own. We skipped it this time around, even though I still have it stuffed in the closet.

One month later, the smaller Swaddle Mes won't fit at all, and she's pulling a Houdini on the larger Swaddle Mes AND the Halo Swaddle Sleep Sack I got, not to mention regular swaddle blankets. Every night now she wakes us up crying because she has her arms out or trapped in weird positions between the velcro. I could probably do a blanket swaddle with the wrap over it, but it's been hot and we don't have central air for another 3 weeks. Guess it's time to ditch the swaddle (she's 4 months but not rolling back>front yet), but those busy little hands keep hitting her in the face when she's trying to sleep!! We are not sleeping well over here. Argh.

We had to ditch the swaddle not long after that because of the 4 month sleep regression. It was probably more at 5 months, but this is when we chose to start sleep training. We got rid of the swaddle and the pacifier at the same time because I could not handle going in every 45 minutes and putting the binky back in. Eventually we gave E a lovey which he now disgustingly uses as a pacifier, but thats a whole other story. He had a crazy big startle reflex, and still does occasionally even today at 13 months, but he learned how to go back to sleep. It will take a little bit, but she will figure those stinking cute hands out and will find a way to self soothe.

We have not had a true sleep regression yet, but we have noticed a lot of behavioral regression around the 4 month mark. Way more fussing than usual, scream-fests at bedtime, getting distracted and not eating well, etc. And she is more restless at night, I find myself popping the pacifier back in more frequently and she wakes up with all the hair on the back of her head matted from rubbing it back and forth. I'm worried if I unswaddle her she's going to pull out all the hair on the sides of her head, it's so long that she grabs it when she's fussing. I was hoping to get past some of the extra fussiness because the swaddle is one of her sleep cues, and bedtime is already pretty hard right now. Last night she was shrieking for a good 10 minutes when I finally told DH to just set her down in the crib and walk away for a minute. He did, and she fell asleep instantly. She actually wanted to be put down in her crib. Babies make no sense.

DD did that, too! Crazy because it was the opposite of DS, who would just get more worked up if we set him down. She'd fuss and cry some when we set her down, but she'd get *angry* if we came back in to pick her up. Silly kids!

ETA - unfortunately for us, it didn't translate into STTN any sooner. Still took some sleep training and 14 months.

We regressed back to one feeding per night, usually between 2 and 4am. Probably because my supply isn't enough anymore to keep her belly satiated all night. But there's enough milk plus the sleep cues, which can get us 6-8 hours off the bat. Thankfully I can make DH get up and do it, even if I'm still kind of awake. MSB, I also noticed more fussing at 4 months, to the point I thought she was teething. But now she's 5 months, the fussing has reduced, and there's still no teeth. Go figure. Hope you have your sweet little baby back soon!
