  • Newborns and laundry detergent

So I bought dreft today to start washing things.... It smells so gross. I've always had a thing against the smell of baby powder. Yuck!

Anyway, DH and I use seventh generation. Is there anything wrong with using that? What have you guys used?

Definitely use 7th gen over Dreft. I use my own unscented concoction with vinegar as softener. I think it's the best.

All free and clear. No Dreft here. We think it's crap.

        Newborns and laundry detergent

We have good luck with free and clear detergents (I think it's Kirkland currently) and both of my kids have super sensitive eczema-prone skin. Anything with fragrance irritates them. I'm not a baby powder person either (blech).

Yep, we're Kirkland free and clear users, too.

I've always just washed the whole family's laundry in one of the brand name "free" or "clear" detergents that claim to have no perfume or dyes. We've never had a problem.

I don't use "free" or "organic" or "no dye" or anything fancy. I typically use whatever Tide is on sale. I wash baby clothes with adult clothes with the same detergent and have never had an issue. Use what you got, if you discover a problem then switch.

I've made my own for the past few years (super cheap) but I've used other stuff and never had a problem

I have used tide free and clear, but mostly we just use regular detergent without any problems.

I'd just use what you like, and if you notice a skin problem, then try something else.

Since we cloth diaper I use Charlie's powder and have just been using it for all our laundry. DH has pretty bad eczema and it's been great for him. Pre-baby we just used anything that said free and clear.

Dreft wouldn't work in our house with allergies and eczema.
Allen's natural soap or a free and clear brand does the trick.
