  • Bottle strike?

DD is a little over 8 months and has rather suddenly started refusing bottles. Today at daycare she had only about 5 oz, less than half of her normal daycare intake. When MIL tried to give her a bottle this weekend she refused. She absolutely won't take a bottle from me. I think it was just last week when I last gave her a bottle left over from daycare and had no problem, but this week is a different story. DH had success with one of her leftover bottles from daycare this evening, but then when we tried to get her to take more later she refused again. She seems to be only happy with it straight from the cow. She will happily eat large amounts of veggie purees and cereal.

It's really sudden... it is definitely possible that she's finally getting those upper incisors in, but I'm not sure. She has also definitely entered the separation anxiety/stranger danger phase. She's extremely distractable but has been for some time, and usually the bottle helps when she's distracted because of the faster flow. But I'm not sure exactly what the problem is.

Did anyone else experience this? Did it get better? Any tips?

    Bottle strike?

If I remember correctly, ST's DD went through something similar. I don't remember the exact age though. I just fed her more food to get her through the day and she nursed when ST got her.

Mine did the same thing. Just keep offering. It'll pass.

OK thanks, that helps already! I was getting kind of anxious... Today I'm going to send her with smaller bottles to accommodate her short attention span, and some extra to thin out her cereal and veggies just to make sure she's getting enough.

Could the nipple flow be too slow? That always caused DS to refuse. Especially when he realized he could fill up quicker with food.

We just upped the nipple flow last week, so it's actually possible that she doesn't like the high flow. Just another factor to consider.

Ha, I totally forgot about that until V said something! In fact, both my kids did that around this age. Usually they hit night nursing hard during that period and nursed a ton when we got home. My first also REALLY liked solid food and dropped down on milk intake relatively quickly.

It's teeth! I can see the upper left incisor starting to come through now, and her gums are swollen. Hopefully the bottle issue will pass quickly.

I tried the dippy cup at that age it took a min but she got the hang of it and enjoyed it as well. Couldn't hurt to try and see if she will take milk in a sippy cup

I was thinking about trying one. The bottles at daycare went OK yesterday, I'm just hoping this tooth hurries up and pokes through so she can be more comfortable! I'm so freaking sick of teeth. She's gotten one set a month so far, and it takes about a week of screaming and fussing for each set. I'm so over it.

I'm sorry... I was lucky that Ms M wasn't such a fussy baby at all. They didn't seem to bother her at all. She started at 4 months and would get them in two's. She had a complete mouth by 1
