• School for DS2

Man, everything is expensive here. The cheapest I've found so far is 2x week, 4 hours, for $350! And you have to provide your own snacks and lunch.

Still working on something, whether it's MDO, preschool, etc. I know there needs to be a safety net in place, so I can get a break once in a while. I didn't know setting it up would be this costly -- 😅

That's about how much DS1's preschool here was, but ours was only 3 hours/day. It's crazy! I hope you find someplace that works for you guys.

Wow!! Are there any churches that have a more affordable option? We pay $240 for 4days/week in a very small Montessori school at our church. They don't even advertise, lol. Maybe something like that is available?

I am surprised because even though prices here are high, there were still 2/day a week options for under $300

I'm surprised by how low so many are. $655/mo for 5 days/wk Montessori. It's the lowest Montessori in the area. Denver was higher.

I won't be paying that much for 2x week, for sure -- still searching for other options. Thanks for the suggestions, Pollyanna!

Churches, co-ops, MDOs. I pay tons for full-time care, but those are where I would look for more affordable.

Yeah I'd kill for that price. We can't afford it but it's $850-900/month for 5 days, 9-3. I'm dying to get C into Montessori but it's looking like a no go until we are settled somewhere (at which point it might be too late).

I love the theory of Montessori, but we can't justify the cost either.

There's also no real standard or affiliation that makes something Montessori. Any program can say they are. Which is a big part of why the cost varies so widely.

Not exactly. With Montessori, stick with Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) or American Montessori Society (AMS) certified teachers & programs. It's true that Montessori is not a protected term, but AMI and AMS are the standards to look for.

Yup, that's the standard price for programs that go beyond K. Ours is a PS-K 3-yr program.

That's a core philosophy of Montessori, isn't it? The 3-6 age grouping? I'm another who likes the premise (I even briefly looked into training as a Montessori teacher, before I even had kids) but the tuition at our local school was just way too rich for my blood -- fortunately, they also weren't "pure" Montessori and really seemed to push both academics and religion in a way I wasn't comfortable with for my kids, so the decision not to pay the high price was easier than it might have been.

I'm gonna do a little plug for co-op. I don't know if classroom volunteer time sounds intriguing or horrifying to you, but it worked great for us, and although 3 days a week preschool only meant getting a break about 10 times a month…it was enough. And cheap.

Yup. 3-6 combined classroom is one of the major core philosophies.
