Decided it was time to take E's paci away. She's only had it at bedtime for the last 2 years, but she tries to abuse the privilege, and I'm tired of fighting her on it. We've been reading "Pacifiers are not forever" for the last week or so (she loves it - asks to read the paci book), and last night she finally decided she was ready to be a big kid and "throw the paci in the trashy." She did really well last night, then she woke up at 5 and screamed for an hour, then woke up C. We held strong and didn't give it back. Hopefully tonight goes OK...

She was on the happier end when I dropped her off at school this morning, despite being awake since 5. We'll see how she does when I pick her up early from school and take her to an appt with C this afternoon though.Allison - professor; wife to a urology attending; mom to baby girl E (11/13), baby boy C (2/16), and a spoiled cat; knitter and hoarder of yarn; photographer

I think she forgot about it... Hubby came home from work and asked her if she went to bed without it last night like a big kid. I almost smacked him - why on earth did he think it was a good idea to even bring it up? Anyway, she was mostly fine with it. She's in bed now - not asleep, but that's normal, and she hasn't asked for it at all!Allison - professor; wife to a urology attending; mom to baby girl E (11/13), baby boy C (2/16), and a spoiled cat; knitter and hoarder of yarn; photographer

She's still having issues going to sleep, but she's not asking for the pacifier. She just asks for a million hugs and kisses, water, potty, etc. We're working on being patient and listening to her if she has genuine needs, but trying not to let her take advantage and stay up forever. It's been like an hour or two of this a night. I'm so over it. I have stuff that I need to do in the evenings, and I can't do it with her not sleeping. Plus she wakes up grumpy when she stays up too late.Allison - professor; wife to a urology attending; mom to baby girl E (11/13), baby boy C (2/16), and a spoiled cat; knitter and hoarder of yarn; photographer

Oh, and since the "Pacifiers are not Forever" book seemed to help, I also got the "Hands are not for Hitting." Hopefully that works too. She loved reading it and we read it about 5 times in a row, so I'm hoping maybe something stuck.Allison - professor; wife to a urology attending; mom to baby girl E (11/13), baby boy C (2/16), and a spoiled cat; knitter and hoarder of yarn; photographer
