  • Question about Pack 'n Plays

So, trying to figure this out and don't know if I'm totally off my rocker. I'm looking at some of the different types of pack 'n plays, and it looks like some of them can be used as cribs (at least temporarily). DH's older brother has offered us their crib, but I'd like to hold off as long as possible because it's big and our apartment is small. Would a pack 'n play be a suitable crib for a bit?

I was thinking something like this: https://www.target.com/p/safety-1st-...elect=50262416

The AAP actually recommends pack n plays over (used) cribs, it sounds like. https://www.healthychildren.org/Engl...d-to-Know.aspx

I'd hold off on the crib. None of my three slept in the crib much. We used the bassinet on the pack n play next to our bed at first. If I could do it again I'd go with an arms reach cosleeper. My newborns all slept in rock n plays or bouncy seats for a while although that's not recommended. When they are bigger though we move to cosleeping. In summary you don't need a crib and a pack n play would totally work.

Get a pack n play with a bassinet option. Any will do. We have a Graco currently.

Check out Red Hen in University Mall. They always have swings, pack and plays, rockers, etc.

Any/all will do. We have never owned a crib. Ours rock a floor bed after they leave our bed.

Mine both slept in a Pack n play (or the swing) in our room for a long time - E until about 5 months and C for about a year.

I liked this one because the napper part was really nice when they were infants and didn't lay on their back very well: https://www.amazon.com/Graco-Playard...dp/B00QHK8TWS/

But you could also get the super basic one with just the bassinet, as long as you have a swing or rock n play too: https://www.amazon.com/Graco-Pack-Pl...dp/B004Y9AKZI/

I'd also recommend getting a couple of sheets for it, for when they spitup or have a blowout: https://www.amazon.com/Graco-Pack-Pl...dp/B00JRYRYOU/

Mine slept in a twin pack n play for over three months. One was huge and we were over the weight limit, so we had to get him out. I can’t remember exactly how long they were in there, but it was certainly approaching 4/5 months. you are no rush crib wise. It makes me laugh when people stress out about getting their babies’ rooms all set up. Literally our kids didn’t enter their room for like three months. (They actually hardly went upstairs - which I don’t think is normal... but my point is... you don’t need a crib or like any of that stuff for so long!).

                Question about Pack 'n Plays

Yes to extra pack n play sheets for sure!

I know it’s not safe, but my old neighbor was all about it and I borrowed them from here.... but little baby chuck pad things (whatever they are called) were kind of awesome for this too. Changing the sheets on the twin pack n play was a pain in the ass!

                  That one would be great.

We have an arms reach co-sleeper we have used for all 3 kids and it does convert into a pack n play. I really like having the open side next to the bed, BUT the assembly/disassembly is truly a pain in the ass. You definitely cannot use it as a portable pack n play.

I use the travel size pack and play for the newborn phase and travel. I got a waterproof changing pad cover and a set of king sized pillow cases and used those under my kiddo for spit up and stuff. She was in that until 4 months.

We plan to do the same for this next one. You don't need a crib right away by any means.

Don’t buy that halo bassinet- if you’ve ever had the thought. I did buy them because they were the only bassinets we could find quickly that could be high enough for me to reach in and grab babies on my own... but my kids hated them. All of my nephews have hated them. And even though they look small, the base is gigantic and will take up your entire bedroom.

My mom got me a FinnBinn for Hannukah (so sweet!!), so we're going to try that at first and have it next to the bed. We're going to raise our bed a bit for storage, so I should be able to peer in easily. If not, I may contact them about cutting one of the sides a couple inches down, or we'll just go straight to the Pack 'n Play.
