  • Game night?

I like board games, and reading the good games thread (again-- I am pretty sure I've read it a few times...) makes me feel a bit *guilty* that we don't have a game night. I'm not sure about the logistics of that one-- with our different ages. So, any suggestions?

We have the twins, obviously the same level, and Luke, whose level is the one where they take all the pieces and run around the house causing mass chaos, and Kate is at the level where anything involving the family is super duper Lame.

So- do we need to have game night for the twins (and Kate b/c I'm that kind of mom) after Luke is in bed, and then maybe a game night for Kate with us after all the "little kids" are in bed also? Or do you suggest trying to do a game for everyone, including Luke the tryant?

Peggy...Huge problem here too because of the age span. Zoe hasn't met a board game that she doesn't have pieces that she feels like she needs to taste. Aidan isn't quite there yet....With all of the different ages and interests dh and I were just saying that maybe we should try Charades.......

      Re: Game night?

Instead of a strict game night, we always have a Friday Night Pajama Party. I usually make stuff that can be eaten in the living room on the floor, the kids pull out their blankets, pillows, and stuffed animals while we either watch movies, play board games, or play on the Wii. My kids range in age from 5 up to 12 so for such different ability levels, we even things out by doing some of our board games in teams. Some of the games we don't have to, though. The two youngest kick everyone else's butts whenever we play the Disney Scene-It or the Nickelodeon Trivial Pursuit. (BTW, Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader is a blast, too!)

The different ability levels in our home is part of why we chose the Wii over many of the other available gaming platforms, anyway. They can all play something and each has their own favorites. DS's top pick is usually the Wii Sports bowling or to watch someone else play Super Mario Galaxy. DD2's current passion is the LEGO Star Wars and DD1 is a total Guitar Hero III junky. When we do Wii game nights, everyone has a turn and we all watch whomever is playing.

          Diggitydot,

What a great idea. I think we're going to have our own pajama party this weekend in the family room!

It also makes for some really great bribery, too. Even the whiff of a Friday Night Pajama Party hiatus and they straighten right up.

Bribery works wonders on my kids.
