  • First Day Back?

anyone else have Big Scary First Day Back today?

I swear, he spent the ENTIRE summer at fun camp there, plus we went to a party on Saturday night- but sure enough, he was REALLY clingy today when my mom and I left him for his first day in "Mr. Jason's Class."

Poor guy. Luckily Jason clued right in and swooped him in w/ the other kids on the way to the class. Hopefully, it went well for the rest of the day. Over the weekend he told me that he didn't like Mr. Jason's class. I think he was really afraid! The good news is that the class is almost all the same kids as last year.

How did it go for everyone else?

      Re: First Day Back?

The first day of 2nd grade started on the 12th for Isabella and she did great. I was able to arrange for her and her best friend to get the same class so she was pretty stoked about that. As for Gracie, she started preschool on the 18th and was a little clingy, but now that's it's been a week, it seems like she's adjusted well. She really can't wait until next year though when she can go to Kindergarten so she can ride the bus with Isabella, so I think she's just biding her time.

DH's peds rotation started today, so finally I have the house to myself and I can be productive! It's nice and quiet, at least for a couple of hours...

Our first day is Wednesday. My oldest is starting middle school. Dreaded middle school. I went to turn in registration forms yesterday and I could feel social anxiety creeping up the back of my neck. People sized lockers, changing for gym class, cheerleaders, and his first mid term/final exam classes. I hated middle school, even though I did fine socially and academically. Stress!!!

Hopefully, he'll do fine too - even with a crazy mother sending off bad vibes.

My baby starts fourth grade. Not a baby anymore....

My first day with kids was the 12th. The boys' first day was the 18th. As of today, there are two down (me and DS #2) with a nasty sore throat/cold virus. He stayed home today.....I didn't, because it is "Meet The Teacher Night" at my school. The parents go to each class for a whopping five minutes. Did you ever hear anything so ridiculous in your life?

So we are back to school with a vengeance.

ours was the 14th for Jacob, 15th for Quinn. Here they are on their first day together (Quinn just started kindergarten, so this is his first time in the "big school").

Ryan started the 5th grade on the 21st. Ridiculous to start on a Thursday, I think. Ah well. So far, so good. He is loving his gifted and talented teacher this year. Last year, he hated it, but we seem back on track this year! I actually don't have a first day of school picture. I have every other year. We may have to have a makeup one this week. Here's a pic of him last week instead:

                        Re: First Day Back?

today was the day! what a cluster f**k getting across the road, to the road that the school is on. the high school is right up the street from the elem. school, and man oh man the traffic was TERRIBLE.

dh made it home to annoy the crap out of me w the video camera....we must document the entire morning leading up to getting out of the car. pictures galore....and one excited and nervous boy.

the parking lot was also a nighmare. i dread tomorrow and the days following when i have to actually find a parking spot to unload my brood so i can walk ds to his room.

i waited with the girls and wee one while dh brought ds in. you can imagine the *interesting* driving skills of the people coming in and out of the lot.

i'm guessing that as the week wears on...and the school year itself...things will settle.

oh, and at orientation yesterday...i so didn't get the warm and fuzzies from his K teacher. i have heard nothing but wonderful things about her and her aid...dh made the same observation this a.m. as well. i think she is a 'no mess around' type of teacher. they get right to work in the a.m. with 90min of uninterupted saxon phonics and spelling.

me thinks ds is going to be tired at the end of the day.

Me three! I absolutely prefer stricter/no nonsense type of teacher.

ITA with Tara and Kelly. Jacob had a no-nonsense type in Kindergarten and now again in 2nd. The difference is AMAZING. His first grade teacher wanted to be buds w/the kids, would say things like "none of your beeswax dude", etc. .... and I honestly felt last year was kind of a bust for us. He met all the requirements, but didn't really flourish, and I may be (okay I am) biased, but he's a smart dude, and I expect more from him. Just after the first week of school this year, I can tell this teacher is one who is clear with what she expects, but in a way that makes the kids want to give it to her. I'm really hopeful.

Back to you Sylvia - how did you hold up??
