This is an awesome idea!!! I know of a few places that actually have preschools integrated into assisted living homes.

DS's daycare (before and after school care) is integrated into an assisted living facility. They have an intergenerational focus which is nice since all of his grandparents aren't within an easy drive.

Nope- anyone can come at any time to Crunchy school and we have lots of branches of lots of family trees so it all kind of gets lost in the "There is Peace before us, there is Peace behind us, there is Peace beneath us, there is Peace above us, there is Peace around us and within us" Morning Circle song.

We have no special day, but both schools have an open policy about bringing a parent or grandparent to come observe and work with the child. This permits involvement in the child's life without casting a spotlight on those children who aren't as fortunate.

Both schools also have a day in which they visit a nursing home facility. The seniors listen to the new readers practice their read, the kids bring snacks and sing. It seems a lot more meaningful and service oriented, both ways. The seniors help a fledgling reader and the kids bring the sunshine.
