:anyolne: Did anyone ever try cold turkey to stop using goodnights. I feel soo much guilt in that my older 2 started wearing Goodnights because it was convienient, in that I always have had little babies in addition to them. We managed to daytime potty train fairly easy, but I feel as if I enabled them to be night-time wetters
Help me out you BTDT folks, as well as former wetters

I kept our kiddos in Pull-ups or diapers until they were dry at night for at least a solid month.
At what age did this happen?

      Re: goodnights

When DS turned 6 we bought the nighttime bedwetting alarm system. It took about three months to be successful and the first two weeks were AWFUL because that alarm went off three times during the night. While I highly recommend the alarm system, I do NOT recommend it until it is a good time for the entire family. Essentially, the child has to wake up themselves and change the sheets. This means that if they are heavy sleepers, you have to go put wash clothes on their face and get them to wake up. It does work. At almost nine, we have an accident maybe once or twice a year. When he goes to spin the night at camp, I lecture him over and over to make sure that he goes to the restroom at least twice before going to sleep. So far, so good.

ITA that Pull ups can make the potty situation worse, not better. I *plan* on just using the triple ply underwear and vinyl sheets next time, even though this is a such a mess. I really believe that discomfort is a big motivator. Feel free to laugh at me when I'm buying Pull Ups again in a couple of years.

Conversely, DD nighttime trained before daytime. I didn't have a darn thing to do with it. It was much harder to slow her down during the day and get her to take time to go potty.

Our girls both potty trained day and night fairly early ( DD #2 day and night at 27 months ) . When they are still in the potty training stage we pick them up around 11pm and take them potty- they always went back to sleep immediately or never woke up in the first place.

I also use a water proof mattress protector to this day for DD2 that I have four or five of (ganked from the hospital, but same as this:

If she does have an accident it is almost always contained on the pee pee pad so no big mess of wet sheets.

          Re: goodnights

My oldest decided she didn't want the night-time pull-up any more and quit cold turkey when she was 4. I think that by not having it next to her skin she was aware she had to wake up. That worked with her. With Anna, she also decided she did NOT want the pull-up but she is a very heavy sleeper. For about the last 6 months, I have her pee right before I go to bed. This has helped, I think, though she still has accidents. I have this pad thing that goes over her bottom sheet. Theoretically, I can just take that off and not remake the bed. It works about half the time -- she sleeps like the Tasmanian devil and it is amazing where I find wetness.

We pretty much did what Tara did. After about 1 month of dry pull-ups, we just took them away... Making them go potty before bed is huge, as is not letting them drink anything for about 1 hr before bed (except one sip of water after brushing teeth.)

Aloha from paradise! And the other side of training!
