Our son used to talk all the time too. Sometimes if we were in the car, I would pull over and get out, and stand there for a few minutes just for a break!

When it got crazy, I would just say to him "You don't have to say every thought that comes into your head. We need some quiet time. Please don't talk for 10 minutes." And it would work long enough to redirect him.

My mother says that my daughter will be a big talker -- she says it is called "karma". I guess I must have been one of those kids... unfortunately, so was DH - his home videos show him babbling away long after both of his parents have left him alone. I'll let you know in a few years, hopefully this thread will have all the answers by then. *eeek*

My nephew was pretty much talking from the moment he emerged. "hi I'm Jack.." Seriously, he has talked so much he's made himself hoarse. My brother does the "here, talk to your grandmother" thing. He also now has a new baby brother (who oddly enough isn't talking yet at 22 months but then again, I keep reminding my brother, with Jack around, who could get a word in anyway?) who he talks to/at/for all. the. time.

My sister had significant language development delays because she had auditory deficits. Her speech always sounded garbled. She talked, but no one understood her. When she woke up from her ear surgery at age 6, she was a new woman! Talked all the time. But, to the day, she still has a slight "muffled' sounded when she speaks...especially when she speaks quickly. She sounds intoxicated.

Can constantly talking for that many hours be considered a "tic" - something they almost can't control once it gets rolling? I guess I'm wondering if there is a verbal tic?

I have one!! Ooooh, me, me, me. Skype. Best invention ever. Right now, she has been talking with my in-laws for 2 hours. I pawn her cute mouth off on them lots.

Ohhh this is a good one! I'll have to remember that when DD gets older. How long will your little girl stay on there?? My nieces don't really like talking on the phone it seems, but I miss seeing and hearing from them. I wonder if they'd like to Skype........ Anyways, thanks, good idea!

I mentioned this thread to my mom the other day and her immediate response was:

The quiet game (as in who can be silent the longest).

Then (in the voice of a child):

Ooooo, ooooo, ooooo, the quiet game? I'm really good at that game. I like games. Does singing count. See, this is how I sing. lalala. What about whistling? I know how to whistle? (makes blowing sounds, but not whistling). Do you know how to whistle. Can you whistle a song for me? How about humming? Is humming okay? I can hum. mmmmmmmm. Wasn't that good. I really like this game. It is a lot of fun. Ooooo, look at that over there.

I just about died because it sounded just like my sister when she was little. It also sounds just like my sister's youngest daughter. The one who says, when she gets in trouble, "Pray for me, Jesus".
