  • Everybody ready?

Dude goes back tomorrow. I have to pick up the pastries at the Mexican bakery across the street from my house (it's a 'healthy bakery- they use whole wheat and no lard) for the kindergarten "yahoo-boohoo" reception on the way to take him.

He's in first grade w/ the teacher who has a great reputation but I wish he was in the smaller class. We'll see how it goes. He announced that he didn't want to go to first grade because 'you have to sit in your desk all day and you do real work." Riiight.

Uniforms are clean, new shoes were purchased, he's bathed and I'm about to go put together most of his lunch.

Yes and no. We start on the first. On one hand I am soooooo ready for him to go back to school. There are too many people in this house. On the other hand, I start work on the 7th and am hating it. Here's hoping that the nice lawyer I am going to meet pans out!

We have open house tomorrow, then school starts on Wed. Can.not.wait! The three biggest kids will all be at the same school, and the girls both got excellent teachers. Not sure about DS's (and of course- he is the kids who needs a good teacher the most), but I am willing to reserve opinion.
School supplies are purchased, new shoes fitted. Ready to go!

Good luck on the first day back everyone! Our high school junior started on the 5th and the other three started on the 12th. Summer is but a distant memory for us.

I start classes after labor day - I am completely unprepared!
(I decided to be ultra proactive and make copies way back in June for the first day of chemistry...well I have done NOTHING since then, and the copies I made are all wet and curled from the humidity )

DD started pre-K last week. I can't even imagine what next year will be like - we do full day kindergarten here and pre-K is only 2 1/2 hours, 3 days per week, so it's a HUGE jump. She'll be great, I'll probably be a mess.

For those of you who have kids wearing uniforms, what do you spend? I was completely shocked when I went to purchase DD's uniform and one outfit cost me $70! I literally walked into her class and thought, if you include shoes, there is $2000 worth of clothing on these kid's backs! I think it's a little disgusting, personally. So, I dropped DD off in her $100 worth of fabric on her back wearing my $15 outfit. Just seems a little crazy!

Good luck to all of you with older children! This is such a bittersweet time of year for families.

We started this morning, too. DS is a freshman. I'm nervous for him but pushed him out the door this morning. I don't like to transfer my own anxiety but I always end up feeling like a nasty mom. I didn't even take a picture!! *boohoohoo* (Of course, he'd be horrified if "mommy" took his picture on the steps.)

DD starts sixth grade and she was extremely nervous. I didn't expect that as much because she is in the same building and has been for two years.

Today, I'm exercising, cleaning my house, buying groceries and updating all my websites. Who ever thought that would sound exciting?

@ fluff : So funny. I did the same thing with all the websites I manage for the schools. Started strong with updates, etc in the last weeks of school and here it is the first day...and I can't even FIND the paperwork on this desk. I guess I embraced summer. *blush*

The girls started the 1st and 4th grade last week and are enjoying it. Isabella got the teacher who has the most respected reputation in the school and she was SUPER excited about it. Even though it's been only a week I can see why he has the reputation he does, he's been awesome with emails and already starting a blog about the classroom. Our school system suffered major budget cuts this past year and they let go of one of the 4th grade teachers so her class has 29 kids in it! I'm super bugged about that but not sure what I can really do about it either. Gracie got into a combo 1st/2nd grade class. She has two teachers one responsible for each grade level but work with all 40 of the kids. Not really sure how I feel about that. When I expressed my concerns to the teacher she assured me that her and the other teacher had been working together for the past 9 years and all three of her own kids were part of combo classes and feels it was beneficial for them. It's my understanding if this class works well for her that she will automatically be placed with the same teachers next year for 2nd grade. I think that may work well since she's shy and socially reserved. Do any of you have experience with combo classes and what are your thoughts/opinions?

We're already back too. J started 4th grade last Monday and Mei started Kindergarten [half day] last Wednesday. I wasn't too sure about J's teacher, but after back to school night last Thurs, I think I'm really going to like her. Mei's teacher is sweet. J has 25 kids in his class. It's been that way since 2nd grade. They seem to do just fine. Mei is in the only half day class and there are only 16 students-- they have 3 other full day K classes. J was excited to see his friends. Mei was excited to start school. Anyhoo, I'm glad that school is back in. Looking forward to hopefully another nice, smooth school year.

My 3 year old started today (he's in the PPCD preschool program). But it's only from 7:45-10:45. And he doesn't learn much but he has fun and we work with him at home and use PBS for what he's supposed to learn at school. ha ha!

The girls slept this morning. I love homeschooling.

I love hearing these updates! Good luck to all of our little iMSN-ers! I love feeling like I get to watch this little community of kids grow up.

We start tomorrow and it represnts big changes for all of us. After 7 years of private montessori, my oldest is getting on the bus tomorrow for his first day of middle school at the local public school which starts at fifth grade. He is ready for this change, but I am not. He is getting to big too quickly. After years of contemplation, I have decided to send my daughter to first grade. With her late August birthday, she will be the youngest in her class but pretty much everyone thinks that she is more than ready for it. Buckle up.

My kids have had an extra two weeks of summer because of the school system change. I can't believe I'm saying it, but they need the structure. (Yes, this is coming from the original summer child!) The last few weeks they won't even look at a pool. There has been way too much screen time and too much entertainment by picking on each other. I really hate to say this because I cherish the time with my kids, but I really think that their systems are out of whack. They have had plenty of downtime. Now they need schedules, structure, and friends.
