  • They'll take Manhattan

My parents just pulled out of the driveway with Jack (my nephew) and Nikolai (they're both 6- six weeks apart in age) headed to their two-day excellent adventure in Manhattan. They're staying in NJ and will be taking the ferry over. Then they "get" to take the bus. Then they're going to Macy's and then a carriage ride in Central Park and then FAO Schwartz. Then back to NJ for a swim in the indoor pool and then (SCORE!) they're going to order room service and a movie on TV. (and dad will be heading to the bar to bring up a desperately needed cocktail, I'm sure) Tomorrow they're going to Rockefeller Center and then to the Rockettes Christmas show and then back here.

I'm pretty much convinced that the Lego Airport Santa is bringing isn't even going to be a blip in the radar this year.

Sounds like an awesome trip! Hopefully, since it is still the work week, there won't be too many crowds at all of those hot spots they are visiting. Can't wait to hear how much everyone enjoyed themselves!

Wow! These are the BEST types of gifts. Tell Nikolai that he is one lucky little granddude! He'll always remember this trip.

Your parents are awesome. They should teach other grandparents.

If they do the Macys Santa thing there are some tips online- mostly to go early, the wait is about 1.5hrs + (shortest earlier in the day) and if you buy prints the lowest price is $25. As well if you opt for a photo on a disk the file isn't print quality & has a date time stamp on the bottom. We looked into it this year but decided against it.

I hope they have a blast!

I haven't heard from anyone so I guess that means the boys weren't total jerks on the drive up! My parents were hoping they'd both nap because they were up late last night.

My parents are the most enthusiastic grandparents in the universe. Probably because we made them wait so long. It was when my dad bought the carrier (think Baby Bjorn) for his cat that the alarm bells rang and we all kicked it in to high gear in children acquisition. John and Barb announced they were pregnant almost the exact same week that we had submitted the initial application with the adoption agency. Each boy gets to be 'first' at something- Jack got here first but Nikolai is the oldest. Four years later James (my other nephew) arrived and whew, we're all done.

If they can accomplish all they wanted to on Day One without any meltdowns, I'll be amazed. Of course, they both behave better when there aren't any parents around, either.

That is a truly wonderful gift - both the experience and the time with the grandparents. DH's parents would love to do such a thing, but ... yeah, not my dad.
