With so many other homeschoolers it really is so easy now. My cousin homeschools in Chicago and her children know so many other kids through sports, fellow homeschoolers, etc. It's not like it used to be.

Museums will often have classes or special events for homeschoolers.

Once your kiddos start in extracurriculars they will get tons of socialization. I don't think you have to worry about that part.

This is a total long shot. Very unlikely, due in large part to my lack of confidence, I think. I find the prospect completely overwhelming and intimidating.

And I am not considering it for the rest of DS's education or anything like that.

It's just... the fact of the matter is, the idea of spending a few years really getting to know my kids and watching them grow sounds very appealing--even if a tremendous amount of work. As y'all know, I have always had a very busy full-time job, even with three kids. Once DH is an attending, we'll have more flexibility (and I will be out of a job, anyway). Before I rush into a certain education track in terms of private school (which, in any major city, dictates a LOT about your life, including your home location and, to some degree, your social circles), I want to figure out what I want and what I can do for my kids.

GMW, that's exciting! I also haven't made any decisions about homeschooling, but it sounds like that might be a good time for you to give it a try!
