Inspire me. I need suggestions for a 7 y.o. girl birthday parties for August or September. I'm not crazy about a pool party due to the supervision of fledgling swimmers as well as my crazy toddler. Outside might be fun but we also might get a day with a heat index of 100 plus.

A search of threads on the Cincimom website suggested iCarly or spa/makeover themes. I'm not ready to go there for a girl who is still happy playing with babydolls and Legos. I'm not sure I want to have it at home because kids at this age can be nuts. Give me your best ideas. Inspire me because I've got nothing right now.

I have found that kids that age always love a bowling party, completely easy for you and tons of fun for the kids

        Yup ^

Local gymnastics studios used to host them, but I wonder if they do anymore in this day and age of endless liability. Seriously awesome, though. I would still love it for a 25th birthday party

Bowling sounds like a lot of fun . Have you tried contacting a pottery "do it yourself decorating" studio?

My 7 year old has been to parties for bowling, bounce house places, gymnastics, pottery places, tea parties in people's homes and swimming at the community center.

Lexi's best friend did a birthday party at Peterbrooke Chocolatier. The kids learned about chocolate and different types of it and how they taste. Then, they got to dunk and decorate oreo cookies, an apple, marshmallows, and pretzels. Huge hit. Goodiebags are already done.

I also think a paint your own pottery, cooking class, or arts and crafts project at Michael's( that's what we did) would be fun.

                Bowling is fun too.

If there is a good movie coming out, you can rent a matinee theater.

                Good luck!

I agree with your disinclination on the spa/makeover theme. I don't know what iCarly is, but I would not let me seven-year-old daughter go to a spa/makeup birthday party for another seven-year-old. Wow--what kind of message is that sending? My seven-year-old needs a makeover? She needs a massage (and don't even GO there--no way)? She needs to focus on the superficial and her physical attractiveness? So, this is how we get our Paris Hiltons and Kim Kardashians. Uh, no. We would be mysteriously unavailable and send a polite decline.

She likes Legos? The coolest party DS (turned seven last week) went to last school was...a LEGO themed birthday party, held in his home. All the decorations were Lego-related, the was a Lego cake, and the Lego pinanta was stuffed with...LEGOS ! And it wasn't terribly, over the top expensive. The mom got all the giveaway Legos online--Craigslist or ebay or something...in bulk.

I like the bowling and gymnastics party ideas. We've either hosted or attended both of those and they were hits with my DD's. How about a Build a Bear Workshop party? My 7 y/o blew a good chunk of her bday money there this year.

Roller skating parties are hip around here. I figure a hundred bucks for 8 kids plus a cake is a sweet deal because I don't have to entertain them.

I have fond memories of skating parties, Kris. We always played games like limbo and hokey pokey. We also shuffle-skated in huge lines because it was the cool thing to do.

Bowling parties are big here as are gymnastics parties- especially in the summer months when it's way to brutal be to outside.
