  • Bladder issues

My 8 year old has been having some problems in the past 6 weeks. I am having a hard time pinpointing them. She has some incontinence, especially when she is very active and doing sports. Another problem is a frequent need to go to the bathroom. It's too the point of interrupting her activities and she is embarrassed by it. The accompanying symptoms include stomach aches and headaches. She often asks if she has a fever. We haven't had her tested for a UTI because urinating isn't painful and she hasn't really spiked a fever.

I don't know whether to attribute this to something physical or mental. There is research correlating voiding dysfunction to ADHD which she has. Her meds don't list any associated side effects for this problem. Any BTDT?

I'm not a urologist, but is there harm in ruling out a UTI? I had many as a kid and never got symptoms AT ALL until it was a full blown kidney infection (which is bad, bad, bad). Also, is she constipated? My 6 year old has huge constipation issues, especially when she's busy - she doesn't want to take the time to go to the bathroom. When it gets really bad she has to urinate frequently, gets stomachaches, and has had the occasional accident. I can't stand bathroom issues, and it seems they never end.

I think it is a UTI. I have and my daughter has had UTIs in the past that are not painful. I even had a MRSA positive UTI about a year or two ago. It wasn't painful at all. I have had UTIs in the past that were painful, but I suggest getting a urine culture.

Yeah I'd get checked for a UTI. I have had a couple recently that only had belly pain and no pain when urinating.

I had a shit ton of UTIs as a kid and very few were painful or came with a fever. It was eventually discovered that I had a really narrow ureter and haven't had any problems with UTIs since they dilated it.
