There are some of my year old daughter's friends who have cell phones. Probably iphones too. We have an ipad and I have an iphone and DD1 has a ipod touch. We have enough technology.

My DD's (8 & 11) both got iPod Touches from us for Christmas last year. Technically they're not phones and require a wifi signal in order to use the apps, but they downloaded a texting app that they both love and use to keep in touch with some friends and family members.

Just recently, I've been heavily considering getting DD11 a non smart cell phone just so I can reach her when she's not with me and also because she'll eventually be flying home to visit her dad.

The only thing I can say is when I went to get dd16 a new phone (2.5 years after her last one- which was a phone that had wifi but not a smart phone) I was amazed at the lack of options for phones that are not smart phones.

I am not appalled at Thomas Kris, and I think in a lot of situations an iPhone or smartphone just makes a lot of sense. The market of non smartphones has really fallen apart...

DD12 needs a new phone, but our options are few. I can tell you she won't get a smart phone until after DD14 gets one.
