Also, we talk a lot about thinking before you act. I want to teach my kids the appropriate behavior so I always ask them if their choice was a good one and what they could do differently next time.

We have taken DD2 to OT because she has sensory issues, mainly hyposensitive to touch. She craves physical input and is constantly jumping on things and touching things she shouldn't be. The OT helped us discover what is helpful to DD and I know the signs of her needing something so I can ward off impulsive behavior by sending her out to the swing set or to jump on our trampoline. Gymnastics has been great for her. Just not my wallet. We have also found that they kids are better able to control their impulsive behavior as they get older. Kindergarten was rough for DD because she buddied up with another girl who was very impulsive and kinesthetic and they both got in trouble a lot.

Whoo Boy. Honestly, what I did was send him to pre-school. Full-time. He was at Crunchy School at the time and they're very Montessori-esque plus some and it was a great fit. Otherwise I likely would have been like that poor mother who superglued her kids hands to the wall.

Now that he's 8 we have the ADHD meds and it makes a world of difference. Even he notices and prefers how much more in control he feels on the meds vs. off. He calls it his "focus medicine."
