I can't speak to the swimming, but the homeschooling has made music much easier. My 11yo made region orchestra this year on her first try! ( But she's been playing for 5 years as well.) You are welcome to pm me with any questions. Homeschooling has been different for each child. My oldest was the math/science geek. He is very focused and disciplined. He is also pretty socially awkward!! But he was in public school until he was 9. He is just that way . He took a lot of AP classes through PA Homeschoolers: AP Calculus, Chemistry, Physics, Stats, Government and Economics. I had him take 4 semesters of Spanish at the cc as well as freshman English. He went into college with 40 hours of credit. He I majoring in computer science with minors in math and economis.

My middle on is my history/literature/political science guy who is a great writer. His social skills are just fine. He has been homeschooled since 2nd grade. Online classes were a disaster for him as he didn't have the discipline. He has been taking cc classes for dual credit since his freshman year and enjoys them. He will have 60 hours before he heads off to "real" college. He needs the adrenaline of a deadline. He doesn't have a clue what he wants to do. For my own sanity, these outside classes have helped because this one didn't want to listen to me. His college algebra prof said he exact same things I had been saying and it sank in!!! He will never take advanced math ( Calculus) or science classes ( AP level), but we have done some advanced literature and writing classes.

My 6th grade daughter is my music kid. I've homeschooled her all the way through. She plays the piano, though we dropped lessons this year to concentrate on violin. She is in community orchestras and choirs. She has a very high IQ, however, in 1st grade she wasn't reading. I found out that she had tracking issues so we did a year and half of intense vision therapy Her doc said most parents don't catch this until they flunk the 3rd grade reading test,so homeschooling helped me catch it. She reads SO well now. She is beginning to write well. BUT SHE CANNOT SPELL!! She cannot visualize the word in her head!!! Typing has been a godsend. She adores her daddy and loves watching surgical films with him. Right now she wants to be a singing, violin playing, missionary doctor. Who knows.... She has always been homeschooled and I the most social kid. She loves adults, other kids and younger ones. She is great on the mission field. The translators adore her. She handles herself like an adult.

All three of these children have required different materials and different techniques. I thought I would be able to reuse the same thing with each child. WRONG. Good luck with the move !!!!

I think I just need to look at it in a one-year at a time approach vs worrying about AP classes for homeschoolers.

And the there is the issue of my ds12 who is probably going to need to add morning swim practices once he's 14. That's the typical progression. And he plays two instruments, which he needs to practice each day. So literally there won't be time for him to do a traditional school day unless he gives up music or swimming.

I wish we knew where we will be next year---- at least this should be the last move that is thrust upon us... Can't be entirely sure though. It is medicine and it is the army as well....
