OK- my annual rant about the cost of decent uniform parts...and to see what the masses have to say.

I always buy the Land's End wrinkle resistant, stain resistant, "Iron-knee" style pants because they come in slims. I also buy their shirts because they do not shrink or fade. (stain, yes. holes, yes.) That said- before coupons and my points from Kmart/Sears/LandsEnd purchases, it was $200! For ONE kid. I don't know how you with more than one do it.

Anyone else have any brands that you love? Dude has to wear khaki pants and either dark green or white shirts. (White lasted one year- never again. Dude is in green until 8th grade)

I feel your pain. A has to wear white polos under a specific jumper which are $50/each. I easily spent $200 and R isn't even in uniforms yet!

Os is navy pants/shorts, which I make for him out of navy cotton twill then white polo shirts or school t-shirts. I got polos at old navy for $5 each then I will buy a couple school tees for $10/each. I think I spent $20 on the pant material - so about $70 for it all? I know old navy had pant for $10 as well. He also needs some new sneakers but I can't say they are uniform required.

When our kids were in uniforms, Old Navy was the least expensive and longest lasting. Keep in mind that these were the girls, though. The boy would have destroyed all comers.

My high school uniform at a catholic school was khakis and white polos, or sweaters emblazoned with the school seal or whatever. They sent a catalog and you could either buy from their supplier or try to find your own risking rejection by not being "collared shirt enough" (yeah, a couple people got that a few times). The khakis were the easy part, old navy, Macy's, etc. it was the white polos that were harder to find. Over the years I had them from various department stores, old navy, the ralph lauren outlet, etc.

We are not there yet, but for school supplies I had to spread it out over a couple pay checks. I feel strange about layaway, but I'd do it if I had several kids needing supplies.

Oh and I got A's polos from Target - $7/each. I bought 5 polos, 5 biker shorts (for under her jumper), 2 jumpers, a logo sweatshirt, socks and tights.

When we had to do uniforms, I bought them at Target.

$682 for three kids and dd11 didn't even get new skirts, and that doesn't include new shoes, socks, etc. We are only allowed to buy from Dennis uniforms so we don't have a chance to shop around. I about passed out when the preK skort was $47. And our school has mostly lower income families.

We also have to buy from Denis and yes I didn't include shoes either - UGH! I'm just glad A only has one option so I don't have to buy a whole bunch of different options!!

Our parents association organizes an annual (gently used) uniform sale. It saves us a ton of money. Knowing we have a lot of kids, people have been extremely generous with their hand me downs too. Uniforms can still be crazy expensive, just less arguing about what to wear.

I bought some Old Navy pants last year to fill in and they lasted two weeks.

I think after I drop him off at school he then walks the halls on his knees.

About $175 here for DS only. I was clueless on where to look, so I just bought uniforms from French Toast because they had a flier in his enrollment folder. I got his shoes from Target. I only bought one pair of pants (the rest are shorts) in case he hits a growth spurt before it cools off, so I'll need to buy more in the fall.

ETA - and holy crap at the school supplies! I get the crayons and pencils, but 6 reams of copy paper, 5 rolls of paper towels, 3 soap dispensers, etc? That adds up fast!
