I hope that this cake tastes better than it looks. He requested a round yellow cake with a chocolate bat signal. This tests the limits of my cake decorating skills.Wife and #1 Fan of Attending Adult & Geriatric Psychiatrist.

The party was awesome! We had 12 kids with parents. The kids played in the basement, built their planes, and then ran around the back yard since it was unseasonably warm (which is nearly always the case for K1's birthday). This is when it comes in handy to have a ton of outdoor toys.
We fit 12 kids around our kitchen table for lunch and everyone raved about the cake. Even that one mom who is always working out ate two pieces. The house/kitchen was so comfortable and entertaining was just effortless. I was absolutely buzzing with delight.
Then K1 gave his friends the home tour. He was so good about making them all wait at the bottom of the stairs until I could accompany them since I'd told him that no one was allowed upstairs without mom or dad.
Then the kids played outside/threw gliders off the deck some more. K1 came inside at one point needing a sensory break. He said he felt like he hasn't spent enough time with me during the party so he sat at the kitchen table and had a drink while I tidied up. Then he played with his friends some more and tricked me into opening presents. He had asked repeatedly when we were opening gifts and I told him after the party. The kids were having fun and I didn't want to disrupt the momentum. Next thing I know, everyone is coming up the basement stairs and the kids are all assembling themselves on the living room rug. Apparently, K1 had gone downstairs and made an announcement that I wanted them upstairs to open gifts. The parents said he was very convincing and so polite that they thought I sent him. What could I do? He did really well opening gifts and thanking each of his friends without prompting. He was also terrific about walking his friends to the door, distributing goody bags, and thanking them for coming. He was a real mentch and I was so proud of him.
He and DrK pitched in for a quick clean up of the kitchen/greatroom and K1 finished all his thank you notes before the day was over. I really couldn't have imagined a better day.
I just flove being able to entertain at home. I told DrK that I'm never going to Chuck E Cheeze again. Even if the boys want a bowling party next time, I'll find a way to do it at home.Wife and #1 Fan of Attending Adult & Geriatric Psychiatrist.

That's great that he enjoyed so much -- I love your stories about him, he's such a neat-sounding person.
