My son is turning 9 and desperately obsessed with Rick Riordan novels. The Kane Chronicles is the trilogy he's reading now. There's also a new Minecraft novel series out that I think looks like twaddle, but the very existence of it makes all the 3rd to 5th graders in school swoon. http://www.amazon.com/Invasion-Overw.../dp/1632207117Alison

The Chronicles of Narnia is always a win. My kiddos did not like Fablehaven at all, three of the six tried to like that series and all came to the conclusion that it wasn't worth their time. If they are into sports I would get them some kind of fun Nerf set they could play with together like dart tag or a target set.Tara

DS kind of got into the first few books of the Narnia series but hasn't followed through on the others. And he's only just on the cusp of being ready for the Hobbit, though he's a pretty advanced reader for 9. He did plow straight through the Harry Potter series, not sure if your nephews have already gotten through those. Oh, and he loved the Chronicles of Prydain (Lloyd Alexander) and the Enchanted Forest series (Patricia Wrede) -- though a princess is the main character for most of those, DS loves that it's "not a typical fairy tale, prince saves the princess kind of a book."Alison
