  • Night wetting alarms

Has anyone ever used one? Have one that they recommend? A is now 8 and still wearing pull-ups at night - at her doctor's appointment today she said that if A is motivated to not wear them it might be time to try an alarm. She was dry for 7 days in a row, then wet last night, and she's definitely motivated to not want to wear the pull-ups anymore. I should have asked the doctor if she had a specific recommendation but I didn't and now looking online I have no idea where to start.

    Anyone?

i started training my kids at 18 months or so (maybe starting 6 months?-- i know it was before they can walk). for night time (for about 3 months), i just wake them up at 12/1am and have them go to the bathroom. they were fully diaper train before 2. sadly, #2 couldn't sleep the through the night until close to 3. arggh - that was bad
also, get those (peeing) clothed sheets under bed sheets --this way, if it's a little pee, it's doesn't wet the mattress.

No ideas but following. K1 has asked for a bedwetting alarm.

I tend to go to amazon for reviews, it looks like they have a bunch and their best selling one has good reviews.

I used one on my oldest at 7 years old because he wanted to have sleep overs. Obviously it's been awhile, but it worked for us. If you have a health reimbursement account, this device counts.

I remember that the literature said it only worked in about 2/3 cases. You have to be ok with either outcome. The key is that when the alarm goes off, the kid has to wake themselves up so that they can connect up the sensation with wakefulness. At first, it was like having a newborn again. We were ALL up three times a night. (Two kids shared a room at that point). That sucker was LOUD. When I originally found out that he was urinating that early in the night I was worried we would be in the unsuccessful camp because that is harder to train.

My BTDT advice would be to wait until it's a good time for everyone because at first it may be a bit of sleeplessness. My oldest got the hang of it within a month or two. He has always slept like the dead and he was just sleeping through the sensation. After about two weeks, his only wet alarm episodes were in the early morning hours. His body wasn't waking him to relieve himself. This was the hardest hurdle for him but he did manage to get it.

At the end, the literature suggests challenging them by not doing things like waking them to go to the bathroom one final time before adults go to bed. They really need to connect up those sensations for themselves.

          Hope something here helps.

BTW, I believe Sally had this problem with all or most of her boys until very, very late (like late childhood/early adolescence). She may have more info.

Thanks gang - yes, given that timing which I had been reading about we're trying to figure out WHEN we're going to do this. We leave for annual beach vacation in a month and then we go skiing for spring break and possibly Texas for Easter...I'm not ready for sleepless nights but that is what the doc said - it will wake everyone in the house up. Oh boy!
