  • Mom's of pre-teens

For those who have been there-done that or are going through it, have you had any experience with persistant stomach issues? DH thinks that it is just anxiety and stress. My 11 yr old DD has been complaining of a wring like sensation in her stomach. No other symptoms. Physical exam negative.

I know I will need to take her to her pediatrician but wondered if anyone else had stress/nerve issues with a pre-teen. TIA

Could she be pre-menstrual? She might not recognize the symptoms.

When Daegan was all reflux-y as an infant, I spent some time on http://www.reflux.org (PAGER) and the kids with reflux often described their pain as a wringing type pain. It was kinda neat how differently the children and teens described their pain than the way I feel it. So I second Tara's suggestion for a trial of TUMS or something.

Another reflux teen here. Gah! My only suggestion that hasn't been mentioned thus far is to experiment with removing dairy from her diet for a few days. I found out I was lactose intolerant a few years back and my stomach issues have completely disappeared. Turns out several members of my family have also gone lactose free with good results. I wish I'd known in high school! (I'd imagine that's when the intolerance started to develop....along with my stomach issues.)

(If removing the dairy helps, you'd need to add calcium supplements....but i'm sure you knew that. I didn't figure that out a for a year until my nails started bending like paper. I guess I was too overjoyed by the lack of stomach pain!)

I don't think its menstrual related since it is daily for the last month or so. Tums doesn't help it. We have her on Pepcid but still having pain. I have been on protonix for the last couple of months due to an ulcer. I hope we see some improvement soon. Its getting to be a big issue. Those on Facebook who are my friends can see she was up at 4am this morning posting that her tummy hurt. She would have woke me up but I was having a major gallbladder attck and had just gotten to sleep. I swaer between the two of us we are a gastroenteroligist's dream!
