It was believed to be sexually transmitted, but more and more recent research seems to indicate the existence of non-sexual routes of transmission.

Where do you see this? Both the Gardasil website and the CDC indicate it still is a series of 3 shots over 6 months.

ETA: I have read research that 3 shots may not be necessary because of the efficacy after 2, but the current protocol is still 3. Here is the info (now that I am on the computer):

My son got one last month- but the ped did not tell me he needed any immediate appointments for additional shots. I assumed it was one for now boosters later. I'll have to call them.

I got it. A few years ago it was recommended for women up to age 26 and so insurance covered it. No ill effects. Ironically, my then BF proposed a few weeks later and is now my DH but I'm still happy I got it. You never know what life will bring so best to protect yourself if you can.

If I were single, I'd definitely get it.

According to the CDC, neither HPV vax is licensed for use in women older than 26...

It is used in other countries above age 26, and there were many commentaries when it was released here, by those who had performed studies on the drug, advocating for use in older women. Much of the recommendations were made based on the age of those studied here, but also because of HPV's interference with fertility, rather than prevention of cervical cancer. When CDC recommendations are made, it is often a very political process. It was hugely controversial for CDC to add the vaccine to its recommended list at all, so to do so for an increased population would have been very surprising. It won't be covered by your insurance, and it is expensive. But, if it were me, it would be worth the expense.

That was really my point in bringing it up There are meds that are used "off label", you just have to pay for them :/

OUCH!!! Got my scone dose today and it hurts! If your kids complain, it's real! My rabies vaccines didn't hurt this bad! Thankfully the muscle soreness doesn't last long (just a couple days) but it burns when they give it.

Oh and in case anyone wanted to know, my insurance isn't covering it and its running me about $260 a visit out of pocket. Series of 3...at 0, 2 months and 6 months.

I haven't finished reading this article, but it relates to this thread, and I thought I'd throw it out there and ask what the brain trust thinks:

                          http://www.thehealthyhomeeconomist.c...ing-our-youth/

The part that jumped out at me was this (partly because it's bold):

It is a noble intention to protect the population from the ravages of infectious disease; however, this intention is an impossible one to achieve through current vaccination science.
Wouldn't the diseases we've managed to eradicate (globally or regionally) or are in the process of eradicating beg to differ with that statement, as it stands?

It does seem to bring up some interesting points about gardisil in particular, and HPV, and cervical cancer.
