Kid has come a LONG way this year. She's smart, but her maturity was severely lacking until just recently. That upswing on the emotional growth chart was a killer.

She's heading to a VERY hippie college in the fall and plans on studying music. They have a music production program she's dying to get a crack at. She even built a drum from scratch for her senior culminating project.

      Evergreen?

I'm so sorry. This is a very tough situation for your dd1 and 2. There is too much pressure on kids. It's really scary.

I'm sad the students have to go through this. I am sad the parents didn't take responsibility to fulfill their child's needs. I admire your daughter's compassion.

wow, thats awesome! if i have any advice its for her to spend her summers getting real life experience and not just studying more. she can get cool jobs at music stores working on instruments or interning whatever field interests her. music school is unrivaled with how well it teaches discipline, work ethic, and commitment (not to mention working well both on your own and in groups) but what schools generally lack is any type of real life application. i went into school saying " it suits my personality to draw my income from multiple sources" and came out saying " um no i just want to know i can pay my bills." idealism is great just make sure she starts coming to reality in a couple years (think back to confession thread violinist friend who is 28 going on 19)

Sorry - what a terrible time. We've had 3 suicides in our town's HSs this year. It's thrown everybody for a loop.

Fluff, that's terrible. What's up with kids these days? We've had two - but both were kids home from their first year of college. One at Thanksgiving, one at Christmas. It's terrifying.

At least with this story from DD, as awful as it is, I feel like I understand. The kid had been diagnosed and needed help. It's infuriating and sad. Some of the other stories I hear just leave me baffled. And sad. Always sad.

Ugh, mental health issues need to be addressed. It saddens and angers me so much.
