  • Beauty Tip

After my exercise class several of us were sitting in the whirlpool and we started talking about the steam room & sauna. I've never been a big fan of either b/c I do NOT like to sweat. BUT ... one of the women passed along a little tip. If you put conditioner on your hair before you go in the steam room it's like a salon treatment.

So, I went & washed my hair, slathered on some conditioner, and sat in the steam room for about 5 minutes (all I could handle), and my hair feels LOVELY! That says a lot b/c my gym uses a LOT of chlorine and it usually wreaks havoc on my hair.

The steam room & I are going to become friends.

OH, I LOVE the steam room. In fact, we're thinking about putting in a steam room if we add an outdoor gym room. Back in the days before husband and kid, my friend and I would go to her gym and do 30 minutes on some random piece of equipment and then spend hours going from the hot tub to the steam room to the sauna. We called it the "executive workout".

Now that's a workout I could stick with! It also works to put on a thick moisturizer for a treatment or to do so on your hands and put a plastic bag around them while you are in there! They will feel like satin!

Great idea, now I just have to find a steamroom. Does that mean I'll actually have to sign up for the gym?

For those with no steamroom nearby, you can also do that in the shower. I usually wash my hair first, then condition and leave it in while washing, shaving, etc. It works much better than rinsing immediately.

For those of you that swim laps, dampen your hair slather on some conditioner, put on a good bathing cap, and swim. It helps to protect your hair if the strong chlorine H2O were to get on it.After I finished my laps, I would shower, shampoo and condition as usual ! A friend who swam competitively from childhood through college taught me about this one!

I do the conditioner trick in the summer on the beach. I slather in a bunch and french braid or pull back my hair with a clip. After a day in the sun, My hair is dry and surprisingly not at all greasy. After a shower, it feels so soft.

We are putting in a shower with a steam unit. When I used to work out at a gym, I was addicted to the eucalyptus steam room. Loved that place.

That does it! I really AM going to the gym tonight. The weather is just super-crappy, and I was thinking of bailing. My own tip gave me the inspiration I needed. :happyrain:
