    :wee:

I just drove out the airport and the IKEA sign is up. Summer 2007! Woohoo!

(seems a little ambitious as it is only concrete walls and no roof but it is on the way!)

You'd be amazed how fast they can put those up - the one in Palo Alto went up in a blink of an eye when we lived there - its really just walls and a few floors.

Slap on a warehouse-type roof and that's about what a finished IKEA is like anyway. You are only a few months away from cafeteria meatballs with lingonberries.

It looks like you're due for another trip down. I volunteer to personally take you to both.

I must be living the good life, baby!

Our house is packed to the gills so I don't think I will be buying any furniture but I feel due for an Ikea experience after hearing so much about it here.

Yep - even if you're not shopping you have to go walk through though I don't recommend grand opening weekend. People will camp out the night before they open.

Camp out? No way! I'll avoid that weekend.

I would like to replace the Ikea furniture in our bedroom but since I really just want a bigger bedroom, it's going to have to wait. It should be fun to visit and see it. And the meatballs, right? I can take MIL to get in touch with her scandinavian roots.

We used to drive out in traffic to Schaumburg, fight the crowd at IKEA, go to the Woodfield Mall, eat at Red Robin. That's a slice of Americana right there!

I noticed this too back in January when we were at the airport. I've never been to an IKEA before. I'll be checking this out when it opens.

                        So...what is rule #2, Annie?

JaneDoe -- since Ikea is such a hit with the iMSN crowd, maybe we can host a regional meeting there. I'm thinking that if it is air-conditioned and if my kids like the meatballs, I'll be making several trips in August.

Annie, love your rules. The weekends aren't bad if you're there by opening time and out before the crowds get too bad (after 12). My biggest problem is having to drive by Bloomies on the way over and they open at 9am. I've been "successfully" avoiding IKEA for about a year now.

                            SO insanely JEALOUS!

I feel I'm past the point in my life where I'm buying Ikea furinture for myself - but I'm all about it for the kids.

We need one here! God knows we've got the space for it! Hell - they could build one across the street!

Annie - fabulous rules, BTW. And spot-on.

Nellie - do you know about the "kid-friendliness" of Ikea? They have a nursing room (although I'd plop down in a display room), diaper changing area that is NOT in a bathroom, and a place to dump -- *er, I mean **lovingly leave** your kids while you shop! Sadly I think they have some crazy time limit - like 90 minutes - but it's good enough to get a good start.

I will say I was always a tad uncomfortable in Ikeas out west. The idea of being in an earthquake prone place in a warehouse w/huge table boxes up high always alarmed me.

Oh - and to add to Annie's rule about the assembly ... it might just be better to be drunk yourself. Those directions SUCK!
