My hardwood floors are oak, my furniture is a chocolate wood (very dark) and my bedroom furniture is a choco-cherry color stain. Oh yeah, and my dining room table is pine with a golden stain.

Ok, I posted pictures in my blog - as you can see we have a lot of oak in our house already with trim, doors, etc. I'll let you know what DH's first reaction is when I throw it out to him tonight.

        Word of caution:

My girlfriend got a pergo type flooring in their bedroom, and hates it because it's hallow sounding when you walk on it. And she also says it nicks bad. I saw on another board saying the same thing, that some brands are bad at getting dings in them for all kinds of stuff, not just dropping something heavy. Also one said in their kitchen under the fridge the laminate kinda sank. So if your gonna go that route, I'd find out what's good and what's not.

I am interested in this as when we by a house for residency depending on where we end up we could end up buying a foreclosure house that needs new flooring, and don't really know what we will do if that is the case.

Oh someone also gave a tip to look into engineered flooring, a combo of laminate and real wood.

This was posted to, thought it was a helpful point:

we went the Engineered wood route also. Initially we were considering Pergo, but didn't want to spend the $ for solid hardwood.
Especially if you are considering selling your home, Pergo won't offer you the same selling point - you can call engineered or hardwood "wood floors" but not laminate.

I think wilson art is supposed to be a good brand. We actually just have builder's grade laminate wood flooring downstairs. We were worried that it would be too cheap and wouldn't wear well, but..it's done great. I've also heard some scarey stuff about pergo...from someone that used to work for them!

Yeh, I threw it to DH and he wasn't nuts about it. He wants carpet in the bedrooms, so I said OK we'll hardwood floor the rest and he said when he thinks of hardwoods he thinks of kitchens. He's giving it some thought and we'll look at Flynn's house when we're there next week but he's thinking no. Which is okay b/c really I'm not sold on it either. It just doesn't seem to fit this house IMO. Next house, probably.

Oh...another thing...if you did end up damaging a board, it's possible to have it replaced. We had that done in the old house for <100$. We still had a couple of planks left over and just had to pay for the workmanship.
