flooring

The new place we're moving to just got new floors. They're pre-finished, and I understand the distinction between pre-finished and post-finished, meaning the polyurethane coating or whatever it is has already been applied to the floors before they are installed. My concern is that there will be some kind of smell once the new floors are installed, though pre-finished flooring is not supposed to have any kind of off-gassing. Anyone have any experience with pre-finished (hardwood) floors and a smell?

Our landlord installed wood floors for this house a few weeks before we moved in (the pre-finished kind) and I never noticed a smell.

We just did pre-finished hardwoods on our whole main floor.
There was no smell whatsoever.

Was there a lot of dust, etc. when the contractor installed them? B/c at our new place (we went to see it today) there's a huge saw in the living room and wood dust everywhere. I am wondering whether that will ever get fully cleaned up.

It depends on the deal you/owner made.

With us it was written into the contract that a cleaning service would go through and get rid of all dust before the job was officially "finished."
