  • Made my first meitai!

Lookee what I made! Russ wasn't near excited enough and my mom and sister are too far away to be excited with me....so you guys have to deal with me!!

I made it for a friend who is due soon. She was the one who spent everyday in the hospital with me when I was there after Daegan was born.

    Daegan loved it!

Excuse the haggard appearance (our AC was leaking and we had to turn it off to fix it) and the fact that I didn't really tie him up that well....he's sagging a little and I don't have the straps smooth.

    Thanks for letting me share!!

It looks awesome and soooo comfy. How long did it take you and would you consider selling them? I have ALWAYS wanted one. No pressure or anything.

Thanks everyone!!! It took about 3-4 hours to make. It was actually pretty easy. The hardest part was finding time away from Daegan to do it!

I wish I could make one for each of you, but it's hard enough on me to leave the little guy at daycare so I can sew for me. I'd be more than happy to help walk you through it!!

Michele, do you have a pattern or did you create one? I'd love to make one for myself.

The surf board fabric was in an on-sale bin at JoAnn Fabric!!

I made this one based on the Ellaroo I borrowed from a friend. There are a bunch of places online that have instructions....they say to use bottom weight fabric...the surfboard fabric feels kinda canvas-y but the lighter blue is just a regular bottom weight.

they may have several different kinds of meitai type carriers that you could try on and then decide what you like and don't like about the different ones....whether you like padded straps, extra wide straps, padded waist belt, padded body, structured body, head rest, sleeping hood, pocket.... you can get kinda crazy into it.

Ooh, great fabric! I love my MT, and I got asked about it in the Seattle airport this weekend. We've been doing a lot of back carries lately, I've perfected the art of throwing the baby on my back.
