  • Tell me about your Coffee maker

I know form posts that we are a serious bunch of caffine heads!

So ...Do you have a coffe maker that has lasted for @ least 5 years, and has made coffee 95% of the days in these years?
I want a programmable coffee maker that lasts!!! Tell me what you have ,why you like it , how much it is used, and how long has it lasted so far? Thanks in advance

Well....I don't have a good rec for you. I have the Cuisinart Grind and Brew. It's lasted years, but has an annoying habit of popping open at the filter assembly and spilling coffee all over the floor. Not what you want to see before you've had coffee! You also have to clean it religiously every night before setting the timer.

I'd love one of those 5K coffee machines installed in my wall. Not going to get it, but - hey - in my fantasy mansion I'd have on in the kitchen AND one in the bedroom.

We have a West Bend Quick Drip. It's programmable but I'm not savvy enough to figure out how to program it. My husband had it through college and med school, and now it's been with us through residency. It's FANTASTIC! I'm enjoying a cup of coffee right now!

We use either a french press or italian bubbler so...

        :nothing:

But a built in programmable coffee maker sounds downright dangerous to me (and heavenly).

What Janet said. A Miele built-in coffee maker? I may never leave the house.

We have a french press and a Barista espresso machine.

We have the french press and use that for trips. I read somewhere that consistent use of french press coffee increased cholesterol. Not sure how that happens, but it made me give up the regular use of the pot. That, and the french press is just too dang small. I need 12 cups.

You're kidding? Really? Good thing cholesterol isn't too big an issue for us.

We have this one. 5-6 cup capacity and it will never break.

Angie, my fantasy mansion would have the built in machines too. That and radiant heat flooring. Give me a fuzzy robe and a stack of books and then call the shut-in hotline.

                From Wikipedia, FWIW.

Some studies have found that drinking large amounts of coffee made by the French press method increases LDL ("bad") cholesterol levels, while drinking filtered, percolated, or drip coffee does not [1]. The French press method allows certain Diterpenes, such as Cafestol and Kahweol, to remain in the coffee while other brewing methods either remove or limit these chemicals.

I don't drink coffee straight (I do love my frappuchinos, though!), but DH does, and he uses this:

                  http://www.amazon.com/Toddy-Maker-Cold- ... B0006H0JVW

It's a cold-brewed way of making coffee. Every couple weeks he grinds a pound of beans corsely (fine grinds will clog the filter), lets them sit in the upper, plastic part for a day or so with cold water, then lets it filter through to the glass carafe, which stays in the fridge - this is a coffee concentrate; he usually mixes about 1 part to 2-3 parts water for a reasonably strong coffee, then microwaves it to drink.

It's a lot less hassle in the mornings, and he can make exactly as much as he wants, and it doesn't use anything electronic to break down (the only part that needs replacing is the thick felt filter, and they last quite a while before they need to be replaced).

I can't vouch for the quality of the finished product, not being a coffee drinker myself, but he likes it quite a bit. And it's filtered, so doesn't have the same cholesterol issues as the french press.

We have the cuisinart programmable. (and the matching cuisinart bean grinder because he took my fab pink kitchenaid to work and now it doesn't work...)

So far it's demonstrated itself to be reliable. I think we've had it for 4 years of daily (sometimes more) coffee making.

Our ancient Mr. Coffee finally bit it but it had to of been at least 10 years old- it existed pre-me in his world.

We also have a French Press which he also takes to work.

and we have a water pitcher that filters the water especially for his coffee...

oh and he stole my espresso maker and took that to work, too.

bit of an addict. In fact purchase #1 from the PX in Baghdad was a coffee maker and grinder. (isn't war a bitch...)

We have the Cuisinart Grind and Brew. It's been used 6 days/week for 25 months now and has been great. We haven't had any incidents so far! We use the programmable timer feature so the coffee is made at 4:40 each morning!

I prefer the glass carafe because I find the thermal carafes to end up leaving your coffee with a bad taste after owning it for a while.

hey Tara, the water here in PHX is HARD. Do you guys have the same prob down there? if so do you have a softner, fliter or both. I'm starting to think maybe the hard H2O has been the culprit for our cofee machine woes!

We have had the Cuisinart one, just brew - no grind, for 2 years now and it's held up really well. DH programs it every night and we've had no big complaints. I religiously clean it every few weeks with a vinegar-water solution to keep the buildup from clogging the machine.

Coffee. Sigh. I just went to make myself a cup and I'm all OUT! Waaah.
