  • Coffee Grinder/Burr

I need a recommendation for a good coffee grinder for DH. The one we have now works fine but its loud and every time you take the lid off to use the grinds or poor them into something the static electricity in the lid ends up getting them all over the counter top.

I know its not a very romantice birthday gifts that but this is what he wants and I figure I might as well take advantage of the opportunity to buy HIM an appliance for his birthday!

    TIA!

If you find a solution to those problems, let me know! I have a Krups grinder now. I have started grinding for a few days at a time but that doesn't really help with picking one out.

DH likes our Cuisinart one, but I'm not sure where it falls on the noise or static scale, and he grinds a pound at a time to do the cold brew thing, so it's not like it's early in the morning and the noise is a problem or anything.

I have a kitchen aid and have been very happy with it. It's about 3 years old. It's kind of noisy, but we don't have the static issue. I like that the grinder cup can be removed which makes it really easy to dump the ground beans into the filter. The one I had before did not remove, and I'd have to lift the whole thing up to the pot.

I have two Mr. Coffee ones, paid $12 each on sale. I use one for coffee and one to grind spices and they are great. I have had them for about 10 years now.

We have this Krups coffee grinder

            http://www.amazon.com/Krups-203-42-Touc ... 149&sr=8-1

It's been great, we've had it for 3-4 years now. It's loud too, but we don't have the static issue.

We just got the Capresso CoffeeTeam. It is a coffee maker that has a built-in commercial-grade burr grinder. The grinder is not that loud. We've used the Krups blade grinder in the past and, I think, it's not as loud. This may be a bit much, but the Kitchen Aid Pro Line burr coffee grinder gets really good reviews (quiet and no static cling of grounds), but it's a monster of an appliance.

I guess I should have added it needs to be adjustable. He uses one coarseness for his french press but a different one if we have lots of guests and he's using the drip maker.

                I'm still looking!

Is it the burr that makes the static? I have the Krups one someone else posted and static isn't a problem as much as it going everywhere. That one is adjustable -- I push the button for a shorter time for French press.

How much of a coffee snob are you? And what is your budget. BC serious grinders go up to the hundreds of dollars. A burr grinder is better than a blade grinder btw. Cofeegeek.com has a bunch of reviews:
