  • Ink in a dryer

I'm totally seething right now and can't even think straight. I knew there was a good reason why I refuse to wash DH's scrubs. Only this time, instead of needles, he left a ballpoint in one of his pockets (I check pockets of stuff on the floor but don't for the stuff in the hamper). Now the entire dryer is covered in ink and I have no idea what to do.

I've tried a few suggestions found on the web (nail polish remover, spray with clorox cleaner and spin towels for 15 minutes) but none of them are proving to be effective, other than bleaching my towels.

Please help, I don't want to owe this rental a new dryer. If I don't find a workable solution soon, I might kill DH when he gets home.

    Needles?

I've had luck getting pen out of clothes with hairspray but I'm not sure how that would work for the inside of the dryer. Is it sort of baked on there now?

DH did the same thing to our brand new, long-awaited dryer two weeks ago. So far, nothing I have tried has worked. The good news - it hasn't come off onto any of my other clothes. If you find something that works - please update me. I miss the brand new look of my brand new dryer!

Nelly, what do you mean by baked? It's not leaky or smearing, I guess it is baked on. I've read about hairspray too but I'm too pissed to leave the apt and face people right now (I don't have any hairsray). I guess I'll go shop for cleaning supplies tomorrow. Will report back if anything works.

I was wondering if the heat of the dryer sort of dried it on there in a way that would make it harder to get off. I don't know if the hairspray will work as well then.

That stinks. I'd be soooo annoyed. I keep a bottle of inexpensive hairspray around for ink. It seems to happen a lot -- pre-dryer. With my kids too. I don't know what it is about ink.

ETA: I'ved used hairspray on walls and furniture and it works but can sometimes affect the finish a little.

I got most of it out and then just gave up. The towel soaked in bleach worked the best for the inside. I had to resoak it twice (3 times total) and spin for about 30 minutes on hot each time. Totally ruined the towel though, so don't attempt with something you might want to keep. The magic eraser worked ok for the door and rim, I used up two of them. The hairspray and Clorox pen did nothing.

              Try rubbing alcohol or WD40.

ACK!!! This just happened to me....DS's new (cheaply made) red comforter just dyed the inside of my dryer. My first thought was...I better check on MSN to figure this out.

                yeah, I got it bad.

                    It's a lubricant. Here's a link to it's usefulness:
