  • It has begun!

Our major landscaping projects are underway! A crew showed up @ 8:00 this AM to dig up all the Bougainvilleas and other trees/ & shrubs that need to go. We took "before photos" yesterday, when DH was digging up a cactus and a shrub he didn't want to lose! It will take a bout 4 weeks.
We are having the pool decking done in pavers, we will be replacing the slate on the Built in BBQ/outdoor kitchen w/ a flagstone top, I think the base will be done in stack-stone. We are adding a tiered, circular patio (done in pavers) off of our dining room. We will be taking out the picture window and adding french doors to allow direct access to the "new" backyard and patio area. We will also be putting in a stack-stone circular raised tree bed and some benches for a shaded "meditation" area. There will be a zone with curbing and filled w/ fine pea gravel for the new play set for the kiddos. We will be getting an olive tree, as well as a lemon, pomegranate, fig and I think apricot. We gave our landscaper a list of various plants that we liked, when we visited the local nursery, for the "fillers". Our front small yard will be getting a few plants and a "spruce up". We currently have a circle of lava rocks, and I am having an Ocotillo/Coachwhip plant, put in the center...I think there will also be a pineapple palm (refers to the the shape of the trunk) put in on the same side.
With the larger side yard we will be installing a new walkway, as well as a retaining wall and a court yard done in pavers. I wanted an outdoor area in the front so that I could sit and read/ drink coffee while the kids play / ride bikes.

I can't believe it has begun...I think I posted about this over a year ago!

      Re: It has begun!

I remember your post from a year or so ago. Yay! I'm so glad you are getting started. That is great about the playset and I think a pomegranate sounds delicious. I wish they grew here.

That all sounds very ambitious and exciting! Please post pics!
I have trouble wrapping my head around projects like that, which is why my yard becomes full of rhododendrons and raspberries.

                              Re: It has begun!

Only a couple of glitches, they disposed of our large Lava rocks, that were out front and were NOT marked for removal
I told him I expected them to be replaced, he said he would take care of it...apparently they are at the bottom of the dumpster buried under all sorts of rubble and plant/ tree debris. They also took out a purple flowering sage shrub that wasn't flagged either.
They didn't assess the drip & sprinkler system properly so instead of tilling & seeding for our new lawn(was a lot less expensive) they offered us Sod at cost w/no labor to install...so we will now have instant green gratification!

They removed the old brick-like paver /tiles ,from our covered patio area that's off of our familyroom/kitchen; we all assumed they were actual bricks  Since they were tile depth, the crew will now have to jackhammer the concrete, in order to have the proper depth for the new pavers we are installing!
I'll try and up-load the before photos and take some in progress photos tomorrow.

Thanks for the well wishes...it's going to be a long couple of weeks or so!
