  • what's that smell?

    ass, feet, and corn chips????

    no!!!

it's my garbage disposal. we have two. the small prep sink doesnt get used very often, so it reeks to high heaven. i have tried baking soda with vinegar...and just now bleach. im sure thats an environmental hazard..but man, it smells.

as cool as a garbage disposal is, i miss my compost pile and want it back!!!

Julia is right - a lemon or an orange should help. I think gunk gets stuck on the blades, and the motion of going through the citrus helps to clean it. Hopefully.

I do the orange rind thing every once in a while, and I think it helps.

I've also heard to try running ice cubes through the garbage disposal, I think that can also help clean it. (Although now that I think about it, maybe that tip was for sharpening the blades...? I can't remember now. )

Ooooh, when I actually HAD a garbage disposal ( ) I would slice a lemon in half and put the halves through. Works WONDERS!

I do ice, then lemon, lime or orange. Much better after that! You can also buy garbage disposal cleaner.

              Re: what's that smell?

some sinks have a black plastic piece that collects stuff underneath. sometimes it's not always obvious that it can be removed and cleaned. If you can remove it, you can clean it off and replace it. I frequently put lemon, orange, lime rinds etc and grind it up to keep the smell away. that smell is terrible, I feel your pain.
